greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

We have had a major crash due to extraordinarily heavy traffic. Please be patient while the diligent techies do their thing. When we come back some time tonight we will need you to post as much as possible to make up for lost time.

Don't panic. Help is on the way!

Lack of money for maintenance and improvement since the dot.coms busted? Don't have a current ephemeris, but unless a retrograding Mercury has run into a malefic aspect involving Uranus, Jupiter or Mars, etc., I don't think it would do a hell of a lot of damage.

Black and Blue Monday: If Steve Case, Walter Isaacson and Sam Lewis, the tireless Armadillo promoter who just died in Texas, think they had a bad day yesterday - welcome to LCom Hell. In mid-afternoon yesterday our server literally destroyed this site - inhaled it like Clinton with a Big Mac. Among other horrors, thousands of Ldotter registrations simply went poof! into the ozone. If you can't get onto the site or having trouble with your password - you are among the Ldot wounded. Please be patient. The 'A' team is on the case and they need all their time to recreate the site not answer your Email asking what's going on. Here's what's going on. One more time. The server destroyed our site. Amy, Jason and crew have been up all night trying to recreate millions of bits of code and information that has taken us three years to build. So give them a break. They are getting it done and we shall survive!!!!

The site has crashed many times before. The server just can't handle things when there's lots of news and tens of thousands of hits inm a short period of time. (The server is in New Orleans, which might explain why it crashes so much, lol! Maybe the server guardians had a three-hurricane lunch.)
