Can x-rays damage my digital camera?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have a Sony Cyber-shot digital camera that sometimes has a mind of its own. When I review pictures in the review mode, it will skip around to different pictures when I'm not even touching any button. Also when I turn it on, the LCD screen says the "LENS CAP ATTACHED" even when its not. I have to smack it and then it will show the view finder. This eradic behavior took place right after I got on the plane to go home on my vacation. So my question is, could the airport x-ray machine cause damage to my camera to make it behave this way? It worked fine on my vacation and after going through the x-ray machine on my first flight. I noticed the problem immediatly after I boarded my flight to go home. I didn't bump it or jar it or subject it to any extreme climate so my initial thought is that the x-ray must have damaged some part of the internal circuitry or something. My camera is still useable and still works great, but now it sometimes gets a mind of its own. Does anyone know why this is? Its less than a year old.

It shouldn't be possible for the X-rays to damage it. Send it in for repair since it's under warranty.
