High winds in our area today

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News - Homefront Preparations : One Thread

Local weather forecast says 50 mph gusts, so we may lose power. Dunno how widespread this is--reports from Grandfather Mountain to the west have recorded 100 mph gusts, but that's a slightly higher elevation than us! There are numerous broken-but-not-yet-fallen branches around town, many poised to fall on power lines.

Tomorrow? Would you believe seventies? It's all that space travel that does it.

Oh, and by Sunday? Seventeen.

The local weather guy just said, "It's not a good day to play golf. Balls will be flying about all over the place."

I suppose you think you have too much wind and will be sending some in my direction.

(Holding my nose...)

Last weekend was simply wonderful.

Monday sucked as it only got to 37.

Tuesday, warmed up into at least the 60's.

Today, we're supposed to hit 74.

Saturday and Sunday, we're supposed to be getting a terrible artic blast with snow. High temps predicted to be about 30.

In Oklahoma, when they say blast they're talking some wind.

Git - here, 50 mph gusts are had when the wind gets going. They don't really report wind here until it gets over 25, and then it is described as "breezy". I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that you keep your power, but I know that after the last power outage you'll do just fine.

Now, ya'll turn around and fart in the general direction of Boston, lololololol.

Yep, it's not wind relativism here, it's temperature. When they say "warm" here, they don't mean a nice, warm spring day, they mean around 75 or 80. Anything over 90 is "hot." If it gets over a hundred, you hear "scorcher." If it's in the 50s or 60s, it's "cool." High 60s is "pleasant."Under fifties is "cold," of course and anything below 20 is "brutal."

Power outages don't worry me, as y'all know. Not unless they go over 4-5 days, that is, or if the temperature is "warm" or above.

we had a So Fla artic blast last night. It got almost to 49 according to my car's outside temp gauge.

Today we should reach the low 70's and warm up a bit as the week continues. then the weekend will bring a drop back to low 70's.

That is, if I remembered all the crap the moron er...morning weatherman said.

All I know is it was cold when I opened the door to let the furniture dudes in to deliver the bedroom set. I am now assembling the new airbed that arrived yesterday. We bought a SelectComfort[.com] 5000 dual wired w/pillowtop. Couldn't get the one with the 'craftmatic-like' base because the bedframe has a footboard. That one massages, too. Talk about luxury sleep. I can just imagine rolling over onto the remote and having the thing fold up into a barefoot omelet. LOL

I'll take a picture or two and post em to that new image site Sue found.

The furniture itself didn't look this big in the store, but in our small bedroom it looks huge. I dare say it might motivate us to look for a new house.

I suppose I could link the set from the store site...

We didn't get the tall tv cabinet. No room for it. Instead they had a cedar chest in the store display. Handy to sit on when putting shoes on, and I always wanted a cedar chest for the quilts and stuff.

Oooooooh!!! Let me know how it does. We might buy one after we move. Whenever that will be.

ZZZzzz.....zzzZZZ.....

My sister has had one for eight years. She used to have a water bed and a bad back. She doesn't complain about the bad back anymore.

I'm hoping I can say the same.

When we went to the store to see the bed [nautilus is only on line or by phone] the saleslady had us start with the 3000 series to get our sleep numbers. [LOL we ended up opposite, btw] Then we went to the 5000 series, and except for the pillowtop which we liked it was the same. Of course the showroom model had the mechanics to sit up and vibrate.

It was very compfortable to lay on.

Starting with it fully inflated, 100, she let out air until we felt like we were being held in a giant hand or similar to a hammock. Then she increased the air pressure and it then built up pressure against those parts of the body which were not actually supported like the back of the knees and the lower back. THAT was when we were totally sold.

If a bed can conform to your body like that so you end up lying peacefully without tossing and turning or even wanting to roll over, you have the right bed. IMO, of course.

We now have the minor problem of stopping the snoring. LOL

I'm not sure if I bought the correct pillows. I bought four, two firm and two extra firm. Firm is for people who lay on their side or back, and extra firm is for those that just sleep on their back, according to the labels. I may end up going to get those that SelectComfort sells, but dang they be expensive!

I'm waiting for the blanket to dry and then I can finish making the bed and maybe I'll take a picture of it then if I don't end up napping on it instead.

okay, blanket's dry, bed is made.

We have to hang the mirror since the dresser is under the window. It will hang over the cedar chest. Plus, I have to get some light blocking window treatments since I sleep in the daytime and the front porch light shines in the window, too.

All in all, I think we did good.

yeah, I left the tags on the little rugs. Not sure if I like them as yet. Same for the pillows and other stuff.

You don't have no STUFF! Where are your books, papers, medicines, OTCs, kitties, kitty stuff, computer, glasses, 2-day old coffee cup, plate with crumbs, catalogues, letters, etc.?

-- Anonymous, January 08, 2003

with stuff:

working on more, but running out of champagne leftovers from new years.

I smell a fraud ...

-- Anonymous, January 08, 2003

rumbs, no blackened banana skins, no coffee cup with gray-green fur in the bottom? Pah! Gawd, it's so clean, you could do surgery in there!!!

This place was Estherized yesterday so mine looks pretty good too!

I can't quite picture it. I need to see the dog lounged on top of the bed.

-- Anonymous, January 09, 2003

slept well.

Cool bed, Barefoot. Yeah, I have a lot more "staff" around it than you do -- mostly books, LOL!

Upper 60s here today. I washed the car and replaced a bumper sticker, which is covering up an ugly gash in the bumper. Got a little prunning in but also had a lot of computer work to do today, so not as much garden time as I would've liked. I really miss daylight in the evenings! It's dark by 5:15 here.
