An Invitation To Study God's Holy Word : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Yesterday, January 6, was the Epiphany--the last day of Christmas in the Western Christian Church and Christmas Day in the Eastern Christian Church. Epiphany literally means the showing forth and it demonstrates how God revealed himself to humankind. Epiphany lasts from seven to nine weeks and ends with Transfiguration Sunday and Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). This event gives us great opportunity to study, learn and know who Jesus is.

Some of the best sermons that I have ever heard and the ones which are most appropriate and meaningful for our time are those which are based on the Lectionary.

On the Sixth Episcopal District Lay Website, I have added a new feature, which is linked to the Revised Common Lectionary--Year B. This will be updated each week and I invite you to visit our site for an in depth study of the word. This week's reading is taken from Isaiah, "And the Gentiles shall come to Thy Light and Kings to the Brightness of Thy rising." It also includes Matthew, "When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea...And it includes Ephesians and the Psalms.

Although, I have not linked these sites, I have others to which I can refer to have a deeper study and understanding of Jesus, the Christ. If you would like these you may email me at the address given here and I will send them to you. This year, let us all get into an in depth study of the word. God Bless you and Happy Epiphany to All.
