How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old rite

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Please help. 20 years ago I flirted with and was courted by a satanic coven. At a point even though young I realised what I was messing with, My dabbling ended then. They put a spell on me. Life has been one long disaster with jobs, relationships and anything else I ever did. Now I have no doubts as to why.Its getting scary now. I read with horror that the vatican have issued a new exorcism right which was written by people who have never done an exorcism.Fr gabriel Amorth, the vaticans cheif exorcist says it has made the right ineffective. It is also forbidden to do exorcism in case of spell,an unusual act to be written, unless by the devil. Please help.

Have you reconciled with the Catholic Church yet? Have you spoken to a priest? If you really think you need an exorcism yet, that should be your first step.

I am not sure what you mean by reconciled, I belong to no church. I beleive in God as strongly as any man can, the demonic experiences ensure this. I went to the church and talked to a priest but I could tell he didn't believe in demons.(how can they really believe in God). He took my number, gave me some Holy water and some beads(like a necklace) but I don't think anything will come of it. It seems like an impossible task to find anyone that knows this stuff.

If you are not a Catholic, then why are you asking the Catholic Church for an exorcism? (btw, that "necklace" is called a Rosary; it's for praying, not wearing.)

Steve,

There is no need to worry (too much). An exorcism is only necessary if you are possessed. In which case I doubt you would be seeking help on a Catholic forum. An exorcism is a very very serious and extreme event, which rarely takes place (or is necessary). Nonetheless, your situation is of no laughing matter. Please consider Christine’s post and visit a priest. It is more than likely you will need to be prayed over for deliverance from this, and if you haven't yet done so PLEASE hand your life over to it's creator, Jesus Christ. Place all your fear, concern, stress, everything in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Only He has the real power to give you peace, which is not of this world.

It might also be beneficial, if you have the sources, to listen to some information on Spiritual Warfare. And may I recommend Dominic Berardino, who was involved in the occult and had a major conversion back to the faith. As members of the Body of Christ, we are at war. Not with armies or soldiers, but with Powers and Principalities. I don't want to sound so militant, but that is what we are, the Church militant - those who will fight for Christ against Satan and his evil, destructive forces.

God bless you. You're in my prayers.

In Christ.

Dear Steve, I hope you know we take your situation very seriously. But if you are sincere in your desire for deliverance and to be set free, that is what will happen. But you need to be very serious yourself in repenting of your dabbling in the occult. Occultic involvement causes one to become tangled in a deomonic web, and you will need to have some extensive prayers. I repeat, you will need to be dead serious about rejecting and renouncing your involvement in the occult; and sincerely desire a new relationship with God. What Christine means by reconciling with the Catholic Church is that you would embrace what the church teaches, and receive the sacraments, which will give you the grace to be set free.

I back up what Jake says, I will give you information to contact Dominic Berardino from Los Angeles. He may direct you or send you good information, as he has experienced what you are going through. He is now a lay leader in the church.

It is highly unfortunate that many priests do not believe in the demonic, or their realm of power. This leaves many people high and dry, searching for answers. Do not give up. God is faithful to those who seek Him, go to your nearest parish and ask for a priest, and for a prayer meeting, a group in the parish who prays regularly. If one parish is lacking, find another.

You may make contact with Mr. Berardino at {818}7711361, or write for info at this email..spirit@fea.net

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

Steve, consider saying this powerful prayer on a regular bases: ---- Prayer to Saint Michael, the Archangel (St. Michael’s Exorcism)

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of Battle; Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke Him, we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into Hell, Satan and all the other evil spirits, who prowl through the world, seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. ----

This prayer is a form of exorcism, and another thing you might do, is bless yourself with holy water on a daily bases, as Satan hates that.

Ask others to pray for you also.

Don't worry, these weapons that God has given us is better than any evil spell placed on you, but like all people we have to pray daily that Satan influence in our lives is limited or negated all togeather.

Also don't assume that just because bad things have happened to you, that is the result of Satan. Bad things happen to good and bad people a like, and sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives, is God's way of bringing us closer to him. Pray that you have strength in whatever befalls you!

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

Jake,

Actually, what you said isn't quite true. Exorcisms are not just for possessions. There are also "opressions" or "obsessions" and other classes of infernal harrassment. It's important that Steve mentioned Fr. Gabriel Amorth, the Vatican's "most renowned exorcist" (as he is called by interviews and news articles) who mentions this.

Hi Steve,

I would recommend you look for some interviews available on the Web written of Fr. Gabriel. There is important information in them - in particular, information about the symptoms of possession/oppression etc., as well as the importance for authentic exorcists to know and invoke the name of the Mother of God, the "new Eve" who has given us back what Eve took away. That Rosary (the beads) you were given is good medicine! Why? Because Mary can pray to God too (which we call "interceding" for you). The love of Christ's mother is the most powerful weapon against Satan.

I just started a "novena" - saying the Rosary prayer every day asking Mary to pray with me to God our Father - two days ago. I invite you to join me. See http://www.rosary-center.org/nrosary.htm for more information.

Don't fall into the trap that others have fallen into! Don't reject the intercession of Mary most holy! God has blessed her greatly and whatever demons opress you - if that they be - do not stand a chance.

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

Hey, Skoob.

Thanks for the clarification. That was kinda what I was hinting at. Actually - the formal Exorcism (which is done by a strict formula and administered by a trained priest) is for ONLY the Possessed (I think we exacerbated this topic a while ago). What you are talking about (obsession or oppression) requires a simple exorcism, which I called “deliverance” to distinguish it from a full-blown Exorcism. A simple exorcism or deliverance (part of which, for instance, might include the St. Michael prayer) does not require a priest (if a priest is not readily available), although a priest is HIGHLY recommended. To be very sure though, I would suggest Steve sees a priest soon. Although we can make all the speculations in the world based on a few posts, it cannot replace a personal interview.

In Christ.

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

Steve,

Perhaps you should see a 'Charismatic' priest; a charismatic priest may 'listen' to your story and try to help you.

Some secular priests are not comfortable talking about the devil. I don't know why but a few priests I have spoken to over the years all expressed the same opinion saying that there is too much emphasis on the devil and we give him too much power. That was my experience; I am not saying that all priests feel this way - just the few I have spoken to on this subject.

I do hope you get the help you need. I will keep you in my prayers that God direct you to the right priest. In the meantime, you can try all of the suggestions given to you by others on this forum - the St. Michael Prayer is very powerful, holy water, prayer to Jesus.

If you have a Bible or can get one, I would suggest reading that as well. Keep saying the name Jesus over and over again and ask him to help you. Satan hates the name Jesus.

God Bless you and watch over you.

Hi Steve- Sometimes if you go to an Örder"priest- ie a Dominican or something of that ilk..some priest associated with a monastery maybe..you can get a better hearing on this subject..it IS hard to find a diocesan priest who will take you seriously...you just have to keep trying. One wishes that all priests would hear you on this matter, but the sad truth is that many don't. Keep plugging along. Call anyone you can think of and explain your problem..you WILL get a lot of rejections but that's the way it is. Don't get discouraged. PRAY to find the right priest. But don't get discouraged if it is hard. If there are any monasteries around call the Prior or the PRioress and ask for advice on what person might be good to talk to. These phone calls are hard, I know....really hard,,but with every one you make it gets a little easier, and God loves you so much for tryng, and trying and trying...He won't abandon you (altho you might feel as tho He has) but eventually if you persevere, all will be well. All manner of things shall be well....

And you will have learned SO MUCH from your experience, and from your disappointments and your fears....When God answers you (and He will- at the perfect, most beautiful time) you will understand how strangely valuable and perfect is the way He led you, even tho it seems so bad and scary sometimes...He loves you. It is obvious that you love Him..maybe in an inchoate way, but He doesn't care..He is happy with you right now, and wants to show you beautiful things....have faith, have hope, and keep going. God bless you.

Steve,

I thought of you when I found this prayer:

Breaking Personal Curses and Spells Against

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints, and powerful in the holy authority of His Precious and Wondrous Name, I ask, O Lord God, that you break and dissolve any and all curses, hexes, spells, seals, satanic vows and pacts, spiritual bondings and soul ties with satanic forces, evil wishes, evil desires, hereditary seals, snares, traps, lies, obstacles, deceptions, diversions, spiritual influences, and every dysfunction and disease from any source whatsoever, that have been placed upon me.

Steve,

Second Part of prayer: (sorry, cannot post too long any more)

Father in Heaven, please rebuke these evil spirits and their effects and cast them away from me so that I may continue to do Your Will and fulfill the mission you have for them to Your Greater Glory.

Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer. I praise Your Holy Name and worship You and Love You. Thank You for the wisdom and light of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for enabling me through Your Holy Spirit to be aggressive against the works of the enemy. Thank You for Your Hope, that takes away discouragement; thank You for ongoing victory. "...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 837).

Father, I now place my enemies into your hands. Look with mercy upon them, and do not hold their sins against them. Anyone who has cursed me, I now bless. Anyone who has hurt me, I now forgive. For those who have persecuted me, I now pray

Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be...

O My Sweet Jesus, forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, and help especially those who are most in need of Thy Mercy.

Holy Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen and Amen.

Hi, MaryLu.
That's a very interesting prayer. Do you have it in printed form -- for example on a card or in a prayerbook? I'm just curious about whether there is a notation that says whether it is for private use only -- or whether a group of people can pray it aloud in church. And I'm also curious if it mentions whether it has an "imprimatur" or "ecclesiastical approval" or something like that.
Thanks. John

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

PART I ====== Dear Steve,

God bless Jake and Theresa for giving you a referral for spiritual help!

In his book, although Father Amorth laments the loss of the use of the old rite of exorcism, nevertheless, exorcisms are still done with the new rite. It has simply made the job of the exorcist more difficult.

Father Amorth says during an interview, "They say we cannot perform an exorcism unless we know for certain that the Evil One is present. That is ridiculous. It is only through exorcism that the demons reveal themselves. An unnecessary exorcism never hurt anybody." (An Interview With Fr. Gabriele Amorth--The Church's Leading Exorcist; http://www.catholic- exorcism.org/pages/suntelegraph/suntelegraph.html )

So, even if one is not possessed, an exorcism would not hurt him. Father Amorth uses the Latin Rite of Exorcism so that the individual he is praying for is oblivious of the prayers he is saying. He does this so as not to frighten the individual for whom he is praying. ========= continued =========

-- Charlotte (rosaryqueen@clarityconnect.com), January 13, 2003.

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

PART II ======= (Steve) The most important thing one must fully understand before seeking out deliverance is that it must be done in participation with one's will, and that one must be agreeable to personal prayer for deliverance--one must be steadfast in his prayer life. If seeking a deliverance from the Catholic Church, it must be done in union with the Sacraments which further protect against attacks of the demon. If one seeks out deliverance, and the spirits leave, but one does not change one's lifestyle by turning to Christ, then those spirits shall return, bringing more with them.

Matthew 12:43 "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it wanders through waterless regions looking for a resting place, but it finds none. 44 Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' When it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and live there; and the last state of that person is worse than the first.

I have witnessed this personally in others. It becomes much more difficult then for the individual to fight against the demon. But not impossible. ========= continued =========

-- Charlotte (rosaryqueen@clarityconnect.com), January 13, 2003.

Response to How do I find an Exorcist willing to use the old right.

PART III ======== (Steve) A point of interest here is, while priests like Father Amorth and former President of the Franciscan University at Steubenville, Ohio, Father Scanlon, believe that priests who are not appointed as exorcists, and deliverance counselors, are allowed to do a minor exorcism or deliverance, the document below questions the difference between "deprecatory" and "imprecatory" wording. In other words, he believes that those not appointed as exorcists may only address the Lord, begging for deliverance, and only a bishop-appointed exorcist may address the demon to command him to leave.

May Our Heavenly Father guide you in your difficult trials. You are in my prayers. Many blessings to you and yours,

Charlotte

Well, this may be a whole new twist, but Steve said he is not a Catholic. If he is sincere in wanting a life conversion, could he not begin receiving instruction in the Faith? Is not Baptism also exorcism? The holy water you were given, Steve, has been blessed by a priest with prayers of exorcism, to drive out demons. The rosary is like a chain that the Blessed Mother can use to bind Satan. The more you pray the prayers of the rosary, the more secure you should feel. If you are truly possessed, then I believe you would be physically unable to come before the Blessed Sacrament; the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ which is kept in the tabernacle of the Church. If you can physically enter the Church and get on your knees in front of the tabernacle, then perhaps you have been loosed! Demons may still tempt and harrass you, but do not possess you if this is the case. What little I know of this, I learned from Fr. James LeBar, author of Cults, Sects, and the New Age. If you desire to live autonomously, ridding yourself of demons, but not subjecting yourself to God, His Church, and His Teachings, you are deceiving yourself. The Truth will set you free. God Bless.
