In the heart of Hollywood - stop by and adore!

If you are ever in or near Los Angeles, you must make a point of visiting the beautiful Monastery of the Angels, in Hollywood, California. This is a monastery of Cloistered Dominican nuns whose convent is right under the Hollywood sign!

They have a little chapel open to the public, with perpetual adoration of Our Lord - it is a wonderful place to go and sit in silent prayer. Here's a link to their website showing some photos of the monastery and giving the Mass and prayer schedule. Hope to see you there! :-)

I am going to the First Saturday Mass tomorrow, and will offer prayers for everyone here. :-)

Christine,

Thank you so much for that link. Wow! How inspiring to see such perseverence in their prayer life. I can say this because my great aunt is a nun, and in her convent they do not mandate much in the way of their prayer life. She does not even wear a habit anymore, so you can imagine how overjoyed I was to see these nuns in full 'head to toe' habit. I wish I would have known about this place when I lived out there. I would have made sure to visit.

Yes, I lived in that direction. In Oceanside for over a year. (Not too far away.) I used to attend Mass at the San Juan Capistrano mission when I lived there. It was a 45 minute drive, but worth it. What a beautiful place that is. (I sometimes did not want to make the drive and attended a traditional Mass closer to me, but their Mass was at 6:00 am. So needless to say, I slept in quite a bit and made the longer drive. :) ) Have you heard of the story of the swallows at the San Juan Capistrano mission? I have the short story "Song of the Swallows" and have read it to my children. They really like the story and are quite envious that I used to go to Mass there. :)

Well, thanks again for the link. If ever I visit again out that way, I must visit that convent.

Hi, Isabel - -

I love the Capistrano Mission! Actually, *all* of the California Missions are worth a visit at least once.

Also, for anyone who loves the Tridentine Mass, several of the Missions offer the Indult Mass on a regular basis! As Isabel said, the Capistrano Mission has it every Sunday, I believe it's at 8:00, is that correct?

The San Fernando Mission has it on the first Sunday of the month, at 12 noon. And the one in Ventura (Buenaventura?) has it every Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

To me that seems like a wonderful idea - to have the beautiful and historic old Mass in these beautiful and historic old buildings! :-)

Dear Christine,

Thanks so much for that link. The monestary is so beautiful. I wish I could purchase some of their products from the store, but they do not deliever - you can only buy things at the store. What a shame...

I wish I had known about it when were in California! We did stop in several monasteries, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember the name of them.

A friend of mine has a son who is a priest and she spent Christmas Eve through New Year's in his monestary. I can't think of a more beautiful way to spend Christmas....

Thanks, again.

BTW - nice to see the habits! Wish we could go back just a little...to some of the old ways - here I go again, but those habits brought back such memories of 'different' times.
