AVI to VCD on a Mac running OS X

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Does anyone have any helpful hints on creating a VCD from an AVI file on Mac OS X? I cannot get my copy of Toast Titanium to burn to VCD. It keeps saying that the copy of Toast VCD is expired! HELP!

I wish I knew. I've been trying to get this to work also. It seems it's busted, and everyone is waiting for Roxio to step up to the plate? I would really like to see this or some VCD solution for OSX. Before it expired on me, I was able to create very good quality from it.

I have no problem burning VCD with toast 5 but I wish I could create a VCD from an AVI file that uses the MP43 codec

ffmpegX will convert from .avi format to an .mpg that Toast can use. It takes a long time however (12 hours on my G3/600MHz PowerBook). Check on VersionTracker. Also useful are VCDGearX (for massaging recalcitrant MPGs into VCD form) and Divx Doctor II (for converting AVIs into MOVs). I'm a novice myself, but so far have been able to burn a few good VCDs.
