Charlotte: I love America

[This is the stupid cow who was PO'd because her promotional interview on the Today show was pre-empted by live footage and consequent blanket coverage of the September 11 attacks. I can't quite remember her exact words but the gist of it was Americans were taking it too seriously--like, when they could have had HER to listen to. Vacuous idiot.]

I'm so glad to be here, er, where? ...

From BRIAN FLYNN in New York

TROUBLED singer Charlotte Church insulted a sellout Canadian audience by telling them: “I love being in AMERICA.”

The 16-year-old’s gaffe in front of Toronto fans was met with an icy silence.

Unaware of her boob, she belted out Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire — then walked off.

Backstage advisers told her of the clanger and she came straight back out and told the audience: “Someone told me backstage that we’re in Canada.

“I’m sorry. I DO love Canada. Toronto’s one of my favourite cities. I know you think I’m lying now — but I’m not.”

Minutes earlier, Charlotte — in a figure-hugging purple gown — had said: “I’m so happy to be here. I love being in America because of all the shopping and stuff.”

It is the same compliment she had paid fans during her other concerts across the US.

Toronto newspapers mocked her over the slip-up. One columnist taunted: “Back to geography class, girl” Another wrote: “Surely chestnuts weren’t the only thing being roasted by then.”

And one writer took a cruel swipe at Charlotte’s figure — dubbing her the “not-so-little-any more Church”.

It was the latest blow to the Voice of an Angel star.

In Cincinnati, on the opening night of her tour, she was seen sobbing — then unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade as she refused to meet disabled fans.

She enraged co-star Julie Andrews, 67, by being late at rehearsals — then threw tantrums.

On top of that, Charlotte’s romance with DJ Steve Johnson, 18, has triggered a string of rows with her mum Maria, 37.
