How to use my scope

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

Hi guys, Simple question I'm sure but I can't figure it out. I've got a .223 that I am using a scope on but how do I adjust the scope for range? I'm guessing that I need to adjust the vertical but how do I decide how many clicks to move it for the amount of range? Thanks! (Tak) Croix

I think it might help if you guys didn't give (jerk) anwsers. The guy ask a question and need's help to get started. guess everyone needed help at some point. If you don't have a helpfull anwser then don't anwser. Keep in mind it's jerks that give shooters and gun owners a bad namem

Try setting up targets at known ranges 100,150,200,250,300,350 yards etc. Put a piece of narrow masking tape around the elevation turrent then sight your rifle in at 100 yards and mark the tape at rear of the turrent with a 1 then sight in at 150 yards and mark the tape with a vertical line then sight in at 200 and mark the tape with a 2 and so on. Its not the best but you gotta start somewhere. The next step is to buy a scope with a bullet drop compensator that matches your caliber and load such as shepard or springfield. I suggest an experienced helper.

usually 1 click equals a quarter inch, but truly buy a book and forget the scope, learn the iron sights first, preferably on a single shot, if u only have one shot u learn to make it count, spray and pray is for the soldiers of fortune group that never did anything and never will.

You need to buy a book and do some research of your own if you're that nieve. Good luck and don't accidentally shoot any neighborhood kids screwing around with your boom-stick skippy. P.S. The bullet comes out of the skinny end.
