Best tactical scope under $250?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I bought a Remington 700 VS LH 0.308 caliber rifle and am shopping for a budget scope. I primarily want to punch paper at a couple of hundred yards, but occasionally want to drop a deer. Any suggestions on what to buy and were to buy it?

Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a Tasco Super Sniper in 16X42 or 10X42. Either is as good as a $1000.00 scope for 300.00! I have a SS10X42M and it is every bit as good as My Luepold Vari X III at half the cost. There are many things I like better on the Super Sniper than on the Luepold as well!

Try the Swift brand. When shooting down the range last week, the chap next to me using a leupold (40mm OL) asked if I could see where his shots were going (it was late and getting dark). He didn't believe I could see his shots hit the target when he couldn't!!

I have a tack driver 24 inch ss 1/8 twist AR-15 American Spirit arms Lother Walther barrel. Wow what a mouth full. Anyway, I needed a scope better than my barrel. I looked thru tascos and several others and had no choice but to go with a Leupold 4.5 x 14 long range target dot tactical. It has the side parrelex, how ever you spell it. Anyway, I can shoot holes in holes at 100 yards. If you cant see the holes you shoot, you can't hit them again. It is a sweet scope. The nice part is you can start at the 4.5 magnification to spot your target and spin it up to 14 power without fading or loosing sight of your target. The cheeper scopes don't have the side adjustment or the quality. I wish you could get a good $200.00 scope but, well if Leupold moves to Mexico like everybody else is, or china, maybe some day you will, but for now. $756.00 for the target dot long range. go to Brunoshooters.com the cheepest prices. Cheeper than sinclair, ammoman.com midwayusa.com or swbt.com by far. steven shaw

Beleive it or not Cabelas outfitters have some damn fine bsa scopes for under 250, they stand up to my rem mod 700 300 mag, rem mod 700 30.06, and The sweetheart of my life rem mod 700 243......accuracy is the shooter.....

Bushnell elite 3200 10x40 mildot. I used one with a savage rifle and got good groups and repeatability at fair ranges. It has nice 1/4 MOA target turrets and a dull matte finish. You can get it from www.swfa.com for $189.95. The parallax is set by the factory at 100 yds and isn't adjustable. Past a few hundred yards, it caused my groups to be inconsistant. It's no Leupold, but definetley worth the price and would be my choice for your needs.

I picked up a simmons v-tac from bearbasin.com for $200.00. Sighted in at 200 yards fairly quickly with the diamond/range finding retical. They are probably out so try www.cheaperthandirt.com. These are also the same as the weaver tactical/varmint scopes. I wrote to simmons and was told this. Hope this helps
