NEW INSPECTION STALL By NILES LATHEM

December 14, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - U.N. weapons inspectors were left cooling their heels for two hours yesterday to enter an Iraqi disease control center yesterday and were forced to use a special hot line to higher authorities, for the first time, in order to get access.

Red-faced Iraqi officials explained that the snafu at Iraq’s Communicable Disease Control Center was because it was the Muslim sabbath - not because they have anything to hide - and U.N. inspectors appeared to accept that explanation.

But the incident comes at a time when tensions between Washington and Baghdad are building, with Bush administration officials expressing growing skepticism that the latest inspection process will accomplish the goal of ridding Iraq of weapons of mass destruction.

So, they're gonna use this excuse every Friday? I suppose they think the inspectors will take the day off or something, thus allowing the movement of stockpiles behind the scenes.
