Big news! OK has a student chapter at KU.

Gene tells me that Peter Gogol registered a student chapter of OK as an official organization at KU. It has been years since OK was officially recognized as a KU organization.

I'm not exactly sure what being registerred will mean to the club. Maybe we'll be able to have events on campus (meetings, races and training sessions)? Maybe it will help recruit some new members?

Thanks to Peter for taking the initiative and getting this done.

I set up a (as of now) very dinky web site for the OK-KU chapter. It's nothing special but I figured I ought to start out with something.

http://www.people.ku.edu/~gogol/okku.htm

Here's what I wrote down as the Statement of Purpose on the registration form, "The KU chapter of Orienteer Kansas is being formed to gacilitate KU students' interest in the sport. We plan on representing the University at the US Orienteering Federation's Intercollegiate Championships and hosting a small orienteering meet in the Lawrence area."

A big motivation for registering a group was so we might be able to get some funding from Student Senate to help defer the cost of going to the Intercollegiate Champs, which are being held in SC this year. If that didn't work out, we still may be able to at least get money for some sort of running clothes/uniform/shirts (blue & pink is the current concensus amongst us) or some minor meet supplies, like paper and printer cartridges.

As a student group, it will also be easier to host a small event on West Campus, which I'd like to try this spring. I envision the focus of it being to introduce students (there's a KU geography club I particularly have in mind) to the sport.
