Still-image format for SVCD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi!

Im going to compile a still-image video, and then burn it onto a SVCD. Question: What is the preferred format (BMP, TIFF, JPG...) and resolution of the images that I import into my video editing SW - Studio/Premiere? I will look at the video on a 4:3 TV (PAL).

You might consider making photo VCD instead of SVCD. The resolution is the same and some standalone DVD players don't support SVCD. For PAL I believe the resolution is 704x576 and JPG is the preferred format. Nero will accept your JPGs even if they are bigger. I don't know about other programs like Premiere.

Premiere will import any image format and will scale automatically. It won't, however, export stills as mpeg stills for standard VCD. It will convert stills to video clips (sans motion, obviously). It also gives the advantages of using video transitions between stills and using alpha channels to control transparency, both of which can give your video a polished look.
