Men In The Catholic Church

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I hope I don't break any of the rules. My concern is that women and girls seem to be so much more involved in our church than men and boys. From mostly female servers at mass to mostly female eucharistic ministers to very unbalanced female membership in all of the other ministries and organizations of the church, and even to the attendance at Sunday and weekly mass, I almost feel like I'm a male that might be "out of touch" with today. I see the same "male drop-out" in the public organizations and schools also. I am very concerned that it seems to also be affecting attendance and participation in mass and church participation.

Yes, it is the "feminization" of the Church. Pre-teen boys don't want to be in the same "club" where girls outnumber them. Shame, because these boys might be missing out on God's calling them to the priesthood via the altar boy route. If you're tired of all this nonsense, try to find an indult traditional Mass to attend. No girl altar boys, no lay ministers, male or female.

Don't think that you are alone in this, Richard.

The same is true in many parts of the world, and has been true for ages and ages. Part of has to do with "machismo," and part with the fact that many men really are (or think they are) too busy to show up more often or to get more deeply involved.

Welcome to the forum! Please join in and participate whole-heartedly. You don't seem to be the kind of person who would ever break a forum rule.

God bless you.
John

I agree with you J. F. Gecik. And this is happening in more than just the Catholic Church.

Tim - the Baptist.

I think that the whole problem revolves around a misconception of ministry in the Church. Instead of seeing the priest as a servant, many, shall I say "Liberals", see the priest as the CEO of the deposit of Faith and the Church. A priest is supposed to represent Christ and Christ came not to be served but to serve.

The whole argument that the male priesthood is sdesigned to keep women out of power is a misconception of the Church from the start. The Church is not an institution which Christ designed for worldly gain or power, it is a service.

I personally am sick of all the experimentatiuon in the Church. Where's the beef? We want to be fed what Christ intended to feed us, give us the pure truth without all this politically correct garbage. We will fill our churches and be able to really progress when we stop all this and get back to the source. Since when do you hear of Abortion, Contraception, The Eucharist, confession, The primacy of Peter, The mystical body of Christ? How often do we hear of eccumenisum, tollerance, and the like; not that these dont have their place, but they must think we are stupid because it is constantly repeated. Give us SUBSTANCE!!!!!!!!!!!

There were a lot more women at Calvary that day, than men. It hasn't changed much since.

-- ed Richards (loztra@yahoo.com), December 10, 2002.

Even this has not contributed to any major change in the Catholic Church. The Church is the same and continues to be so.

Throughout the centuries females have outnumbered males. This is true not only in the Catholic Church but also in other religions. This phenomenon can be noticed worldwide.

A recent survey about Islam says, there are more practicing female Muslims than Muslim men.

Lately in Israel a Muslim female bombed the bus carrying Jews. The casualty was high. Not forgetting the Moscow theater siege, where some of the terrorists were female.

Great going gals!!!

Peace

Valid observation!

Your are regognizing a symptom of what society has done to our young males.

Consider a person with a bad caugh, runny nose, sore and closed throat, aches, pains, fevor. All symptons of what adds up to be in total "a flu" or infection that has entered the body.

Do we only see and treat the runny nose? Do we talk about the runny nose and say why is this ?

Ans: we look beyond the symptom to the cause or at least the treating Doctor would and most likely take tests and perscribe medication to attack and control the infection.

A doctor will do this because it if left untreated it may complicate other parts or systems in the body and eventually cause death.

What you have observed is the rath of Feminism in socety.

Feminism is the gradual brainwashing of our society used to control the masses. On the surface many of their advocated policies or projections are guised under issues which are there to help society.

Imadgine in NJ feminist want to rewrite history by mandating that schools start Americian history and only consentrate of the plight of oppressed women. Tell that to a WW2 veterian!

One must investigate the basis of their thinking. ALL the media, schools, club teachings are there promoting women and their cause. There is federal and State funding and laws to back them. Essentially there is a small percentage of radical special interest groups writing the laws for which our society must live and it is being done with our own tax dollars.

Feminist teachings stem from a radical mindset that is based on the doctrine that is taught in womens studies classes in our Universities.

Training for the job market? If you consider domestic violence advocate, anger management advocate, rape crisis center advocate, non profit fund raising 101 advocate, sexual abuse advocate and social services for victims a career, the answer is yes.

The problem is these jobs are functionally dependend on funding from the tax base of society and the only way to promote more jobs in this career path is to exaserbate the funded issues. ie. domestic violence, (which attributes to 50 -60 percent divorse rates), rape/sexual abuse crisis centers(whch has deememed a touch on the shoulder abuse or consensual sex with married couples rape)

So essentially we see

Its not about equal rights, or helping society as a whole , its about bringing down men in order to bring up women.

Read what is taught in Womens studies. Read the text books that are cover ups for the study of WICCA and Goddess worship. Unbelieviable! Go read it.

There are actually doctorate degrees now offered in these studies, all within the last 5 years. We ask ,where does all this political correctness come from??

Although this opinion may seem radical on the surface, I challange you to look up womens studies and the courses taught and read the material that is proclaimed. Interview some of the women who attend these classes and the men who have attempted to take a role in these classes. It comes down to degragation of men and what they term a patriarchal society. They term the Pope as the biggest patriarch and defame him.

As the generations pass these women become part of society as teachers, lawyers, corporate executive and their theory is forced upon society ever so suttle. Where no act alone it noticed, but just slightly talked about and let go.

Look at the hostilities that are created in collages today. Our young men are by gender labled as rapers, batterers, abusers, oppressors, dominent etc

In NJ, at Rutgers one Womens Studies outlet was granted 400 thousand dollars to change additudes on campus. No other basis but to promote the feminist cause. No oversight as to how the funds are used and no one questions this. If questioned they are chastised and thrown out of the collage. This is on of hundreds of grants given. None to address mens issues. In fact most funding is used to surpress free speach of men voicing their opinion.

Look at TV how men are always portrayed as the dope and women the hero. Even childrens cartoons have been changed with a feminist mind set. It may seem silly, but since when is Wonder Women stronger then Superman. Well its been changed in childrens cartoons! So you say so what? Big deal? I say Why? and what is the basis for this?

In NJ kids can't play tag in schools because it is considered too aggressive and a prelude to male abuse.

In Nj Bully laws in schools are passed to protect people against "feelings". Anything can now, in schools be considered bullying, down to feelings. Look a step closer, the folks advocating these laws have strong constituants in the Gay/Lesbian and transgender community.

In NJ parents are mandated to attend anger management if their "boy " is part of hocky team. Interesting, not "womens hocky" or girls sports. Again, only the boys sports and parents who promote boys sports are labeled aggressive, abusive and deadly.

Why? If the basis of anger management control is save lives?

Fact is , its usually the soccor Moms that are screaming and fighting like cats on the sidelines.

Its difficult to view a single act or funding objective or civil law that contirbute to our young boys feeling less about themselves.

Its a cumulation of what our society portrays to them. As a parent, I see this time and time again where boys are forced to feel less of themselves. Anything slightly or possible thought to be male dominated is diminished and boys are told to step aside and let the women dominate.

Consider Article 9 laws. Universities must provide equal funding to womens sports as mens sports and if the demand for womens sports are no there then the funds must be used as grants to promote such. This is happening at the expence of revenue generating mens sports at Universities. THis is extortion at the expence of males. WHy not just provide funding to womens sports if they

Collages graduate 54 percent women yet the feminist media constantly portrays women as a disadvantaged women who are bound to the household and forced by society to rear children.

So we ask why is male attendence and participation at church services so low ? It is just following the pattern of messages that society has given to our yong boys.

Understanding the theory that is taught in our Universities will open the eyes of Catholics and all mainstreem men and women.

The root cause of the symptoms will rise to the top.

Does this mean all feminism is bad? No. Just like the Muslum religion is not bad, however, there are radicals within that are misguided and use it the Muslum teachings as an excuse for their political cause.

Pray for them.

Best Regards

Dear Richard, women seem to 'come from the heart', and men 'from the mind', and that's ok. We complement each other, but the situation we see is real, more women involvement. However, the men I know who LOVE GOD are wonderful witnesses to God's work in them. Be encouraged, God has called you, nourish your love for Him, you are a witness and an encouragement when YOU show up, don't worry if you're the only man, you are a light, you represent a true reality, men love God too!

I'm reminded of the night about 5 years ago, when 7 of us women sat at our prayer group, looked around, and began praying for MEN to show up. Happily today we have a large group of 30 regular pray-ers, and a good solid core of about 10 faithful men.

It just takes a little leaven for the whole loaf, remain faithful Richard, where you're at. God is SO delighted in your love for Him, and will use you where you're worshipping. You may be a great encouragement to women who need to see a man worshipping. blessings, Theresa

Well, bridges prices are at an all time low right now... but the insurance is sky high.

But is it a narrow bridge? I might be interested... =)
