how do I convert an mpeg4 file to vcd?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi there! I've just bought a DVD Player, but cannot play my movies, for nearly all of them are in MPEG4. My player supports only VCD (& of course, DVD) files. Can anyone help me find some MPEG4-to-VCD ripper, or something of the shape? Thanx a bunch beforehand!!! Sam

Go to http://www.vcdhelp.com and read the guides. You should also look up your DVD player in the DVD Player Compatibility List. If you have a player that doesn't support CD-RW or CD-R, you're wasting your time trying to make your own VCDs. You may disappointed in the results after converting to VCD. MPEG-4 and MPEG-1 (VCD) are both lossy codecs and converting from one to the other usually has a negative effect on quality.
