"the blackness of darkness superened"What is the actual definition of superened? I can make a educated guess from the context, but is this an actual English word? I can't find it in a dictionary. Thanks.

This looks like a typo in your edition. The word is meant to be 'supervened', which you should have no difficulty finding in a dictionary.
