A question about linux

greenspun.com : LUSENET : All Things Final Fantasy II : One Thread

Ok i have heard of linux but i dont know much about it. My dads company sells the software but i dont know what computers it will go on. Is it like the mac where only mac machines and some colones support mac os or will it work on a pc machine and destroy win 95-98 and the pc becomes a linux. Im just wondering. Oh yeah and what country does it come from. I heard it was from europe but i dunno where. If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks.

It originally came from Finland, but is now international. As for what platform it will run on, it depends what distribution. Red Hat is strictly PC platform, and will work for AMD or intel, and many other PC processors. But it wont work for Sparc or Mac. Debian supports ALL platforms. Linux, on a Mac, cannot be the only OS, you cannot delete mac OS from the machine. You'll have to run a dual boot between mac OS and Linux. on a PC, you can run Windows AND Linux, or just windows, or just Linux. Find out what distribution you are going to get. I can't help you until then.
