Perth, Scotland - On Saint Andrew's Day comes fresh evidence of what women around the world always suspected: when donning kilts, real Scotsmen prefer to swing free.

Sixty-nine percent of Scots quizzed on their way into Scotland's rugby test matches said they wore nothing under their kilts, according to the poll taken by Scotch whisky distiller Famous Grouse.

Of the others, 14 percent said they wore boxer shorts, and 10 percent briefs. Seven percent coyly replied "other," including one gentleman who confessed to wearing a Batman thong.

Famous Grouse spokeswoman Alex Fitch put it all down to pride among Scottish males. "Historically they never wore anything," she told reporters, "and a lot of the men I know would rather die than wear anything under their kilt."
