Need the names of the Carmelite habit parts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

One of my students at school is doing a report on the Catholic faith. She interviewed a Carmelite nun in our nearby Carmelite monastery. She wants to describe Sr. Christina's habit but we don't know the names of the parts. Does anyone know the official name of the veil, and the white thing over her shoulders, and the robe? I know it sounds funny, but I'm ignorant on the subject. I guess we could've asked the nun, but we were so enthralled by her countenance and knowledge the last thought we had was what she was wearing. Thank you, Theresa

It all depends on whether it was a good habit or bad habit:)

In Christ.

A veil is a veil. The wimple is her tight headpiece, I believe, the white covering a stole, and the long garment is the habit?

I came across this description at http://www.nmia.com/~paulos/carmel.html:

“The Carmelite Habit is fashioned after the one worn by St. Teresa: open sandals, a brown tunic and scapular, a white wimple and cloak, and a black veil.”

Haha! Christine-- I'm reminded of a sweet little waitress in a Jewish Deli down in San Diego. D.Z. Akin's--

You would ask her, may we have the hot pastrami sandwich?

''Soy-t-inly!''

With fries? ''Soy-t-inly!''

Hey, Emerald: You ever go to D.Z. Akin's? Christmas is coming, and they have a fabulous gift shop. It's near SDSU.
