A mates F4 has a problem with a leaky crankshaft housing. The engine was sent to the repair to Italy.

He does not know, wether he will get a new engine or only an new crankshaft housing.

He feares, that if he gets a complete new engine, these from spare part existence from the year of construction 2001 coming.

Can one judge from the engine number on the crankshaft housing the year of construction of the machine?

Or can one recognize the year of construction only by the frame number?
