The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A light earthquake occurred IN SOUTHEASTERN SOUTH CAROLINA, about 30 miles south-southwest of Charleston at 4:39 PM MST today, Nov 11, 2002 (6:39 PM EST in South Carolina). A PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE OF 4.2 WAS COMPUTED FOR THIS EARTHQUAKE. The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. The earthquake was felt along the coast from at least Myrtle Beach to Beaufort. There have been no reports of damage.
