What other type of rave dancing are there?greenspun.com : LUSENET : North Carolina Raves : One Thread
Alright heres the shit i knwo about raving, theres light shows wit glowsticks, led photon lights or mirco lights and u have it around making figures, and wit glowsticks u can create moves and throw them around behind ur back and all that other shit, and theres one where u attach the glowsticks/photon lights wit strings and make a better light show wit that. and also theres liquid popping and the candy dance or candy walk..DO u guyz know a better rave dance? or rave walk? is so tell me...
-- Anonymous, November 11, 2002
umm you know that there's liguid pop. There's also glowstick/poi which is the easiest of them all. There's String and String Poi.String is the hardest i'd say. You get two strings and tie glowsticks at the end of them, start to swing them by your sides slowly and move your way up to your head.It gets easier as you practice, but it's pretty hard, and must ppl hit themselves because they make the strings longer then they can handle. So start with something reasonible.I'm not a pro at this, so if i come across more info on the different stlyes i'll post it for you. Laterz, i hope it helps somewhat.

ever heard of Break dancing!!! Ima b-boy outta pittsburgh livin in VA now ... but there is also the K-waltz and walk
-- Anonymous, November 29, 2002
well i assume figures you're simply talking about the basic figure 8 and variants and stuff but then u can move on to "tracing" and "stalling" in terms of glowsticking.. then poi - which is glow- sticking with corkscrews, butterflies etc.. then liquid pop - the generally most advanced of the 3.
best of luck - just type in each and check them out individually is ur best bet.
-- Anonymous, January 15, 2003
haha. here's one that i learned when my friend was teaching me the basics. go up the ladder, down the winding slide, into the pool, swim around and drown in the whirlpool.it's pretty kewl. you can't do it w/ glow sticks though cuz they get all mixed up and you need your fingers free. anyways. peace.
-- Anonymous, January 29, 2003
Poi isn't dancing with glow sticks it dancing with fire you take chains of some sort attach kevlar wicks soak them in gas and spin them around it also isn't very easy and has just started to develope on the rave scene in the past year it has nothing do to with glowsticks check it out on www.homeofpoi.com
Liquid popping and Breakdancing is still the best shit out there
-- Anonymous, January 30, 2003

There's also just moving to the fucking music instead of waving around gimmicky, shiny shit just to impress people. If I want to see people waving and throwing around random shit, I'll go to a damn circus. The people there probably have more rhythm anyway.

I don't know how ya'll can say any one form is better than another. You can be better at one form than another, but I respect the hell out of every dancer out there. One thing I know, I don't have the upper body to break, or the coordination to be really good at poi (stix on strings) but give me regular sticks, or LED's, and WATCH OUT! *Laughing* Been trying to learn liquid....if tips, email me

I've been partying about five years now so cali. I've battled many different styles... in fact i'm on an instructional video to teach generic steps sold to new-bees (haha they are easy to make money off of) here is all the dances involved in the scene. *Pop Locking *Liquid Popping *Boxing (making box with hands and arms and digits) *Digits (finger popping, it's hard but trippy) *Liquid (hands only) *Jungle Walk (norditrack w/ side skip. or what you new bees call Candy Dance whatever that shits supposed to fucking be... TO ALL U OUT THERE THE CANDY DANCE IS NOT A REAL DANCE. PEOPLE SAY THAT AND BUST OUT THE NORDITRACK.) *Double Skip *Jungle Skip *Bobble head *Crouch Popping *Floating (Sliding on feet, form of liquid pop) *Partner Popping *Crazy Walk (rave version of the crip walk aka c walk) *Glowsticks/Poi,hands, short string, long string
Best way to learn these dances is party often but not too hard and watch and try to mimick practice all the time. Dancers just don't bust out now and then they always dance... around the house, bored, chillin, w/ friends, parties, parking lots of parties.
If you need tips on how to do certain things e-mail me.
Peace. --Popper Jon Oh and check out these sites. Bouncybop.com and run a search on liquid pop collectives. not sure but u can try www.liquidpopcollectives.com
DO EVERYONE A FAVOR PUDDLE TO THE SIDE AND THE BACK OF DANCE FLOORS IF THAT IS WHERE U CHOOSE TO PUDDLE OR EVEN AGAINST THE SIDE SPEAKERS... LEAVE THE MIDDLE OPEN FOR DANCERS. WE HATE THE FUCKIN PUDDLES THEY GET IN THE FUCKING WAY!!! IF UR IN SO CALI AND U PUDDLE I'LL RETURN THE BAD VIBES! and stop saying PLUR... it's over rated doesn't mean anything anymore hasn't in like 4 years. there's no peace, there's fake love, yeah we got unity, and no one is respectful. Dance safe.

i've seen too many different styles to name them off but what i've seen that looks the best is when you just shut out the sceen and let the music take over your body remember to fallow the beat it dosen't matter what beat if you want every 3rd beat or every beat just keep going if someone dosen't want to watch you then they won't if your doing good then ppl WILL tell you thats how i got better when i first got into it i couldn't dance but i never stopped now i have ppl tell me i'm really good but i'm still trying to get better so keep at it yo

-- Anonymous, May 13, 2003
I've been raving for about 6 years now and this is the first time I have ever really seen the experience get hacked up as bad as it is here. If you want to learn to dance go to a rave and learn. don't commercialize raving as if its the 2 step you learn down at your local bar. learn to dance because it makes you free, not because it makes you popular or cool. oh, and don't sell out.
-- Anonymous, May 26, 2003
let me help your vocabulary out a bit.. and some of my opinions..
Raving is going to a rave and dancing
Glowsticking, is purely just dancing with glowsticks Glowstringing, is obviously glowstickings on strings which i think is too easy, you can become really good at stringing in just a matter of weeks/months and it lacks a shitload of freedom, you may have a bunch of moves but what sucks is taht EVERYONE knows how to do it.....
now, Glowsticking/Freehanding is a bit harder because you have to have your style and BE ORIGINAL to be noticed or at least be known as having a different style, and being noticed is not an important thing in this because we are all in it for the fun right???
Glowsticking is more then just circles and Figure8`s.... have you guys downloaded shit off Houseofrave.com, all thoes guys on the glowsticking/raving section suck like hell if you think about it. and guy with photons is pretty good actually...
but there is no such thing as liquid popping, is just plain liquid, i guess all of your guys have heard of the Liquid Pop Collective (LPC), but i repeat its not liquid popping, its liquiding.
And the Candy walk is very simple, heh, i call it the C-walk for Candy ravers, stupid, yes, i know, but its the easiest way to explain for people who dont know shit about the kinds of ravers there are.
and if you guys really really want to inform your self on more glowsticking and stringing stuff, go to www.glowsticking.com ive been registered for about almost a year so i know what im talking about...
and if you want to at least get an idea on how to start liquiding, go to www.reflective.net
good luck guys...

all this dance talk is pretty sic for sure. I would be scared to dance around you kids probably. I am a bit confused why there can be no such thing as a liquid pop. I think the main guy ov this post or whatever seams to know whats up with dancing but hell you cant mix anything together.? If there is no liquid popping then there must not be space popping or sphere-work breaking. Personally I think encrypted sub-shell liquid-space shadow popping is the way to go. What a mouthful, but it definetly appears to become manipulated that way in my nervous system.
oh, the reason I even decided to reply here... one ov the first things i read.. Its what -- Amanda (email@example.com), January 29, 2003 -- wrote. near the top.
Who would notice something like that ? and then to be able to reduce it to that. .. a good mind in a good place for sure.

Yay, listen to Ernie "Figure 8" up there he knows what he's talking about. And freehand glowsticking is the best kind of raving there is. You can flame me if you want but it'll be kinda pointless as I'm never coming back here.

On The responce that there is no suck thing as "liquid popping" which is 100% True!
Some of you guys might know who i am some of you might not but, My name is Eric i am one of the founding members of the crew called LPC (Liquid Pop Collective)
I stumbled upon this thread while seaching google and i thought i would add a few facts to the mix here.
"Popping" Is the slang term for a few styles of dance called the "Funk Styles" it is called such beacuse it was usally performed to funk music. Here are a few on the main Funk styles..
Waving King Tut Style (Slag term "Tutting" Boxing also goes in here) Locking Boogaloo
There are also a whole host of "sub styles" as for example Ticking, Strobing, Animation, ect. The ones listed above a generaly accepted as the main styles.
Popping as a term is the Tensing and releasing you muscles to the beat.
A guy out in california by the name of Boogaloo Sam used to say the word "Pop" every time he used to "hit" to the beat. So his friends used to say Sam do that "popping" dance so the term caught on.
"Popping" eventualy evolved into Electric Boogaloo or Boogaloo which was invented by Boogaloo Sam. Boogaloo is "popping" or "Hitting" with a set steps with your feet. For more info on "Funk Styles" check out www.mrwiggleshiphop.net or electricboogaloos.com.
Liquid and Digits have some shared roots in funk styles but evolved difrently because of the music it was practiced in. (electronic music) Honeslty we dont kow where our crew style of liquid came from. We have tried to find out and have been searching for awhile now. We will present some hypothisies and let you decide for yourself.
This was writen by Code Red of LPC it is a history of Digitz.
If you decide that you really want to learn Digitz, you must realize and reckognize where it came from and how to treat it. LPC is currently the ONLY crew that fully practices its style to its true foundation. we did not create it, yet we have chosen to pass it on to those willing to learn, in the correct manor.
its origin comes out of NYC by a kat named Mario. unfortunatly he does not spread the dance- nor do those few that still venture their way out into the electronic scene. however, he does condone and appreciate my method of teaching and my choice to bring it out to those willing to learn. remember that this technique used to be extremely secretive and exclusive, therefore the privilage to truly learn it, should include its appreciation to those who created it, and those who are taking the time to pass it on correctly.
when you are asked about digitz, you should make it a point to not only show someone how to do it according to its foundatin, but also to make that person aware of its origin and history. you have a capability to be a teacher, but you MUST teach it with Truth. knowing the originator, his direct diciples and its history are just as important as knowing the dance. if you do not pass this point on, than you are not telling a person what digitz really is.
my first experience of seeing digitz came a lil over 4 years ago when someone mentioned to me i had to see this guy mario. the only thing was, i had to see him. and it wasnt always so easy. if you asked him to show you, he wouldnt always do it. you had to catch him over in the corner doing it, and try to learn from what you saw. gradually i got to know him, and he passed ideas on to me. alot of it was by interacting with his hands, mirroring what he did, or by actually being his other hand. his mind was a perfect definition of "clever". his movements were at times so simple looking, yet impossible to do. in time i began to take it on like a breathing living entity. then, things went awry...the place we always went to shut down and had issues...partys became unpredictable, and alot of us split up. we didnt see each other often, and soon,no one was really doing it anymore. when i met everyone else from LPC, i found people i could trust to learn it and make it their own. and they did. we all do digitz differently, but they are the same. becuase we use a common foundation- it is a foundaton that mario created, and we placed a vocabulary on.
you may see other people doing finger movements that look like digitz. but alot of the time they are tricks. poppers and liquid heads try to use every body part imaginable. the fingers included. so you will see certain tricks that resemble digitz. but they arnt. You must be able to detemrine what is and isnt. if you see someone doing digitz, and doesnt know its history...eduacte them. the voice is very powerful, and is the reason why we as humans can spread such elaborate knowledge. digitz is now all over the world, but unfortunatly it was not spread how i hoped.
once the teaching went past the third or fourth student, nothing was being learned except that it was "cool" to move your fingers like "this". it goes deeper than that, and it must be taught as such. it is very techinical and that needs to be understood. making the decsion to pass it on camepartly form my hope to spread it right, but also because so many peoplesaw it, and began to imitate it. i had ot me a decision on wether i wanted to let it go and se people just doing it, or wether i wanted people to know "what" they were doing and "where" it came from...guess which one i am choosing?
in a brief break down-
mario created it and his boy Milo was right along side. they both were creting it as they progressed more and more...
below them there were several of us who learned...so if you hear their names and they talk about it...than you are listening to a second generation of diciples... my crew (excluding me) are third generation. we use our knowledge of its history and foundation due to respect of another persons dance and its appropriate affiliation with our crew's style. keep in mind that we will NEVER say we created it, we merely defined it so you all have a common language to work with. we all acknowledge its origin, and it is what you all need to make sure is done when you learn it and pass it to others.
if you hear discrepancies, always ask...but ask those who know the truth behind the dance. and yes..it is a dance. this style is coordinated fully with the music, and should be developed with the music. what you produce visually should be breathing the music that is being played before you. Digitz does not just involve the movement of your fingers, but also how you are showing the music that you hear. you are visually interpreting the music to those watching.
remember...pass digitz on correctly, not because you are told...but because you respect what you are learning..and understand why it needs to be passed on appropriatly.

Go to seattle between the years of 1996-2002 and you will see the best dancing ever done. They called it the seattle slide at one point and it did resemble moonwalker sliding in a way, but the main difference was that there was a very specific arm movement involved. They would put both arms out in front and pivot thier wrists from side to side changing the rotation of the pivot to the beat while at the same time sliding against the swaying of the arms. Of course there were many varyations on this, it developed from one kid passing it on to the next so each of them had a lil twist. Eventually kids got so good at it that it resembled popping, so smooth that it looked like a machine. Liquid meant nothing in the shadows of this dance the only thing that had shit on it was good Quality popping. Most of these kids are either dead (R.I.P Michelle, Makile)or gone now, but if you go to the Baltic room or the soundlab in seattle you might bump into some oldschoolers coming out of the woodwork. I know this cause I was one of those kids and I think that we seattlites deserve some serious props for our skills. I moved across the country and live in ny now and never have I seen anything like it or worthy of it. To those who know, it will go down in the history of dope fucking shit. Also mad props to the man that brought and end to it all, that god damned superhuman Tim aka "Lucky." Thats some fuckin rave-lore for ya.........................signed: Die hard party kid.

hey, the three main rave dances are freehand raving which is with the glowsticks in your hands (usually better with ecstasy), stringing with the glowsticks on strings, and stomping which is just stomp dancing to the beat of the music. and when you freehand, you move to the lights.

Man I have attended many raves, and many concerts of lots of diffrent types of music but Hydro-Mechanix is the best dance I have seen. You can use it with any type of music, and I'd like to see you do most of the rave dances to rap! And all you people that are like rap sucks and shit FUCK OFF! If your not open minded enough to listen to all music (not saying you have to like all music but some rap has the same message as alot of metal and I hear people say metal rules and rap sucks! Thats fuckin stupid (Oh and my music of choice is metal or punk)) I dont care what you have to say. Oh and one more thing, pakelika didn't copy shit, his dance is BASED of other dances but not a copy. Oh and just to spam and promote my own band: THC KICKS ASS!
