Does anybody burns VCDs for a Samsung S224?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I just bought a Samsung DVD-S224, as it was pretty cheap and seemed to do the job I need. Yet looking everywhere (even on their website) I can't see that it plays SVCDs, and it probably doesn't, which is ok. All my technology is pretty old. What I need is (if any of you are using the same player) to find out the best quality MPEG encoding to play MPGS that I am making with Premiere 6.5. I've been trying to burn VCDs with Nero 5.03 and I would like to know what would be the best option to make high quality MPGs. They're all about 5 minutes long, so I'm not too concerned about compression. Thank you for your help.

If it's really Premiere 6.5 you are using you can render the timeline contents directly to a VCD-compliant MPEG-1 stream. 6.5 has a built- in MPEG-1/2 encoder which may or may not be able to produce MPEG clips with quality superior to those made by TMPGenc.

Thank you, I actually just did that, and setting it o svcd (in premiere) works great. Now I'll try to find TMPGenc, just to see if the rendering is any quicker! Thank you for your answer.

Slightly related to your post :-)

I've just purchased a S224 and I cannot play NTSC vcd or svcd correctly. Everything plays fine except for the motion which is very jerky.

Do you experience the same problems?

I have also bought a Samsung DVD-S224 and the manual says it do support both vcd and svcd, what it doesn't says what framerates, bitrates, resolutions it supports.

I guess its PAL so I will try video: MPEG-1 352x288 25frames/s CBR 1150kbps audio: Layer-2 48000Hz 224kbps setting in my movie converter

I've tried several other combinations but with no luck (best result is with audio and scrambled picture)

I too have this player and in my experience it will not play svcd, however i'm not sure which formats i have tried.. it will play beautifully any pal vcd tho is a little fussy with cd-rw also but is that really a huge problem?? if anyone is playing svcd please alow me to know the specs of the svcd you are creating?? i use tmpgenc to encode video usually to a good quality.

Recently bought DVD-S224 after going through a forum www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php . I can confirm that I can play back both VCD & SVCD discs (Pal) although the the player recognises the latter as CVD!!. I burned the discs from a commercial album program supplied by Photodex Corporation (USA). I also confirm that I successfully burned on to Philips CD-RW74. Hope this helps..Gordon(UK)

Hi all, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to all this techie stuff, but I have just purchased a Samsung DVDS224. The reason being the sales blurb said it would play my MPEG image files. I have hrs and hrs of MPEGs but none of the discs(CDR or CDRW) are recognised by the player(although it plays MP3s fine). I don't know if it's something I'm missing or did I just misunderstand the sales blurb? Can anyone help... Thanks. Mark

I have just bought this player. To the guy having jerky playback for NTSC disks you can choose how the player outputs this as either NTSC or PAL-60. You might want to investigate this.

I have tried some existing cds and dvds I had with mpeg files on and I could not get a response from the player. I also can not find any info on how to create such disks.

I have successfuly played dvds I have encoded and authored myself onto Intenso dvd media DVD-R and DVD+R (I have a sony dual format burner see) also my sony DVD+RW also works a treat.

oh and region unlock is a doddle. I have not tried a SVCD yet.

I bought an S224 and burned a SVCD with Roxio CD and DVD creator. It played with no problem on the S224. At the shop that i went to buy the player they also had a Philips machine there and tested the SVCD oF roxio as well, which played also. I think it played with less pixelization on S224 thats why i bought the s224. Nevertheless when i check the status of s224 when plays the svcd it reports vcd 2.0. CAN I RECORD A SVCD AND THE PLAYBACK BE SOMETHING ELSE?

I burn SVCD on 74 min CD with tmpgenc & roxio 6 but the player play it in low-res mode same as VCD
