OAK BROOK, Ill. (Reuters) - Fast-food giant McDonald's Corp. MCD.N , said on Friday that it would close about 175 restaurants worldwide and will miss its 2002 earnings estimate as it continues to struggle with underperforming sales in the U.S. amid stiff competition in the fast-food business.

The company said it will cut 400 to 600 jobs. The actions will reduce fourth-quarter earnings by $350 million to $425 million, the company said.

Well, given that our local MickyD is nothing but a joke, I can see why they are closing stores. The local one uses 16 y/o to close the store after midnight, makes them clean the store on their own time, allows sexual harassment by the male management, and keeps managers that can add 2 plus 2 or get to work on time or manage. Food is cold, orders are wrong, it takes forever to be served......

The only reason I can see that they are still open is that they pay the kids minimum wage and turn them over so they don't have to pay bene's

My goodness, beckie. you learned all that just from sitting at the traffic light in front? LOL

I don't remember when i last ate at McD's and I don't want to remember. I have eaten at Burger King recently, but that was because I didn't dare go back to the Miami Sub where that dork hit my car and the one by work closed at 3.

Our DD worked there for a few months while still in high school. We don't eat at any MickyD's because they import their meat from Australia with the lame excuse that American beef isn't lean enough.

Australia? I thought they got it from Argentina. Either way, you're right. I can't remember the last time I went into a hamburger joint. But then, I can't remember where my glasses are, either.
