another lesson

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

learned another one today,,, learned NOT to use coal in my woodburner. COal is NOT supposed to be used inside airtight woodstoves, or the creasote builds up FASY.

GUess what,,,,not a chimney fire, but smoke INSIIDE my house,, coming from the seems of the chimney. WHat a mess,, have to have the fan on, blowing out, ,and the front door open. SO, IM sitting here, with the door open,, in sweat pants and a thinck flannel shirt on, warm slippers,,,, thinking abnout a blanket soon.

ONly thing I can figure , is that the creasote, has built up around the seems, and when I get a hor fire going, it burns it out, cause the smoke.

Sure, bring work gloves this weekend

Glad to hear you didn't have a fire in the chimney. My folks burnt coal when I was young but it was an actual furnace but I would have thought it could be used too.

Too bad you didn't have any hams ready to smoke, kill two birds at a time. :) Stay warm; I still don't have heat but it's only going to 35 tonight so it's not too cold. Maybe tomorrow the part will come in.

climbed up on the roof,, to check the chimney,, WAS FULL OF SOOT,, I had just checked it a month or so ago,, and it only needs cleaning every 2 years. Coal can sure mess things up. So I cleaned that, came back inside, ,started some paper on fire, to see if it would draw better,,,

N O P E

was worse,, didnt draw a bit,,,, so I dismantles the inside, firebrick, air tubes,,, anbd got about 5 pounds more soot out of it. FInally got it all back together,, working fine, jsut have to burn the creatote out of the seems now,,
