"Carolyn Estate House " is still around. "1931"???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I have an old photograph of the "ROBERT S. ATKINS" department store and trying to put dates and timeline together with the photo. I know nothing about S.F. But as you look at this old photo you can't help but to dream , "WHO,WHAT WHEN AND WHERE" . Its all part of an old Diary from 1931. it also talks about a Carolyn estate house with 96 rooms. Trying to find if that "Carolyn Estate House " is still around.

Thanks,

Jackson Little

It just might be Carolands instead of Carolyn. The diary "1931" talks alot about Watsonville and Hillsborough. The estate that she talks about had huge room, ballrooms and so on. Is this place still around??? J.L.

If you are having trouble getting to the Carolands page at the Page and Turnbull web site, just go to their homepage, www.page-turnbull.com and click the "projects" link, when on that page click the "residential" link and you will then see "Carolands" on the menu. (This page is one of thousands of examples of why you shouldn't use frames. ) D.

The Robert S Atkins store was a bit like Macys. They specialised in fish products and stuff like that. The site of the original store can now be found at Folsom Street, next to the big block of apartments.

Good luck in your finding out!
