[Did y'all see this clip on TV? So funny! I think it was this incident--maybe it was another, was a Dem stealing, anyway. Half of the signs we put up invariably get stolen--we know they are because other signs next to them are still there--usually, the ones left are black candidates. In a gubernatorial campaign I worked on in NO, Edwin Edwards's people were steqaling our signs, some of which were large ones. In fact, it was noted their truck was following along behind ours, taking them out a block after we put them in. So the guys leaned a real big sign in front of a fire hydrant. And the truck ran over it. . . That water gushed REAL good.]

The Chairman of the Democratic Party in Johnson County Illinois will appear in court November 22nd to answer charges that he stole a Republican campaign sign.

Bret Neighbors was issued a citation Friday night for removing a sign from the Eagle Point Bay subdivision north of Goreville.

Neighbors is the son-in-law of Jeannie Mccall, a candidate for County Clerk in Johnson County.

He is accused of taking a sign belonging to McCall's opponent, current County Clerk Robin Harper-Whitehead. Harper-Whitehead is a Republican.

Harper-Whitehead told Heartland News that she is "upset" about the alleged sign stealing and that it sets a bad example.

An attorney representing McCall and Neighbors released a statement saying in part: "The arrest of Bret Neighbors was a last-minute act of intimidation and desperation by the County Clerk to assist in her re-election efforts."

No charges have been filed against Bret Neighbors.

It wasn't the arrest so much as the publicity of it.
