Church Fire, Santa Rosa Ave. & Alemany Blvd.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

Does anyone have any details on a fire that burned down the old Corpus Christi church on the corner of Santa Rosa Ave. & Alemany Blvd.? If I remember correctly, it occurred in the late '50s or very early '60s.

Thanks... Linda

You're new here, aren't you. You'll fit in fine. Wellsome, (not a typo) I didn't know those 2 streets intersected. My friend's relative owns a restaraunt on Santa Rosa; pernhaps (not a typo) he'll know...

Those words are my dialect (please note I'm crazy).

Sorry, I was thinking of another street. I can see that intersection from my house. Corpus Christi school is there. Pernhaps you should ask the people at Corpus Christi to find out if you already haven't...

Actually, the flat building on the corner is the present day auditorium rather than the school, which is over on Francis Street & Alemany. The old school used to be in the present day parking lot. There was a construction delay with the new school so we ended up having four classrooms in that auditorium and only had to go to school for half a day while the new school was being finished. Originally, the auditorium was going to be two levels, the lower being a swimming pool. If I remember correctly, there was a subterranean problem along Alemany that eliminated the plans for the pool. Something to do with the underground tunnel that goes from the southwest corner to the southeast corner of Alemany & Santa Rosa.

This is irrelevant, but Epiphany school is currently building a new gym, library, and science lab. It is set to be finished by July 2003.

i have recently devleoped a way of telling if someone is funny by three sentences they have written. so, what im wondering is, am i funny? by the way, my name doesnt count.cos this really is my name. dont worry, im not thinking about a lawsuit. im thinking about cheese. yes, so id really preciate it if one or many people came up with some sort of funny test. i anticipate questions to which humourus or unhumourus aswers must be given. and u lot remind me of rhebus monkeys.

I went to Corpus Christi School and graduated in 1964. If my recollection is correct the old church did not burn but was torn down for the new church. The new Corpus Christi Church was praised for it's beautiful design and I had the privledge of serving as an alter boy for a number of years.

Wonderful!

Can you give me memories of the freeway construction and/or BART!? That would be wonderful! Thanks for responding!
