Interesting food products at Big Lots

The Hungarian and I were at BL this morning and I found a couple of interesting stash items y'all might be interested in and might find at your local branch. The first was asparagus guacamole, I kid you not. There was also vegetable pate, that Swiss brand that's so expensive, and at a reasonable price. Then there was a Belgian-made chocolate-hazelnut mixture, kinda like peanut butter only different. I tasted the latter and it was WONDERFUL. Very handy--does not need refrigeration after opening. Then there was low-carb pasta, made from soy! Also picked up some small cans of scallops to try and some groumet sauce mixes at 39c each. They had lots of neat stuff today. I guess a gourmet shop went out of business.

I'll pass this on to Maj.

You have better "stuff" at your BL stores! The last time I was there, I found it flooded with a truckload of stale wafer cookies from some local company that had gone out of business. The best thing was toothbrushes, 5 for $1.

The Hungarian and I try to go once a week. We know the layout of the store so well we can avoid the areas we're not interested in and concentrate on stash supplies. The stock in those areas very often changes week to week. We've been in there when there was nothing much available but on occasion, like this week, we can load up. Kinda like going to yard sales!

watch those toothbrushes! We bought some cheap 5 for a buck brushes and I gashed my gums when one broke while brushing. YEEOUCH!

Thanks for the warning, Barefoot.

The ones I bought had Walgreen's on them, and probably were sold when the last Walgreen's in the area closed down not long ago. It was probably cheaper to sell the unsold stock to BL than to ship it to a Walgreen's in another state. I think that's where all the makeup came from, too.

I still maintain that your area gets better "stuff," OG. I've been making a point to stop by both BL and OL (Odd Lots) when I'm in the area, but I've never seen "cool" food -- the best stuff I've seen lately was the chocolate peanuts in foil pouches -- looked like something an airline would give out.

Maybe it's a regional thing cos the BL near Sweetie's apt has lots of the same stuff. He gets his Arizona tea there. But keep checking--gourmet shop stuff comes in around this time of year, often really neat baskets of stuff for prezzies.
