New Book

Just want to notify everyone that there is a new book on Henry Flagler and the Key West extension entitled "Last Train To Paradise" by Les Standiford, Crown Publishers $24 list. I have started to read this book and am impressed. It is very well written and is very accurate, with only a few errors-nits really. I recommend this book for all interested in the FEC and the Key West extension. Brother Seth Bramson is mentioned in the bibliography and is given credit for assisting in the effort.

I asked about a update re: Mr. Bramson's book on the FEC list, received the following reply from him:

"Please continue to be patient. I received one copy and immediately called Boston Mills. The errors were grievous and apparently appeared AFTER proofing, although I never received any "blue lines," so have to accept BMP's word that the proofing was properly done. Suffice to say, I called BMP immediately and the decision was made to pull them all (I had the ONLY one that had left the warehouse) and send them back to the printer where they may all have to be completely reprinted. (There were such minor errors as photos with no captions, the first page of Chapter Six replacing the last page of Chapter Four and then that same first page appearing again in the proper location, missing words, and "but wait! there's more!")

I am not happy to report that the book will NOT be in in time for Gaithersburg but should be ready mid November. While my "urge" is to apologize to you, that same "urge" is tempered by the fact that I must remind you that I am the author, not the publisher, and so am as frustrated by all this as you are, if not more so.

Again, our thanks for your interminable patience, and I am certain they are doing everything they can to see to it that when it does leave the warehouse it will be right."

This book has had more delays than Carter's had Liver Pills .

Interesting that this should come on now, in light of the much anticipated re-issue of Speedway to Sunshine ...BTW...anyone know what the latest status of Seth's book is?
