In most camcorder available today, the digital out is in DV format. We need to use various types of conversion tool to generate Mpeg-1 format in order to produce VCD. So far, I have not seen one brand (correct me if I am wrong)that gives Mpeg-1 output direct from camcorder to PC.

My question is, why most camcorder manufacturers doesn't build in a software conversion in the camcorder ?

In the latest lanuch, Sony IP5 or IP7 models produces Mpeg-2 output to PC. This is the 1st in the world who introduce Mpeg-2 output. It may be too expensive to own one now. So, I am still looking for Mpeg-1 camcorder at a very affordable price. Any recommendation is welcome.

.cause its kinda stupid..dv is a compressed format but mpeg 1 and 2 are even more compressed..why film or output in a crappy format to then edit and transfer later and make it even worse..it wouldnt be watchable.its better to capture in the dv avi then edit and export to the format of your choice.
