How do I delete this Illegal Divx Mpeg-4???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I must have installed some sort of Divx codec aweek or so ago and now my avi program won't run right when it converts and the sound is a bit off (you hear the sound a few seconds before they speak). The program also says it's a illegally made hack and that's why it doesnt work right. Question is how do I delete it??

I'm assuming you're on a PC running Windows.

1. Go into Control Panel and select Multimedia or Sounds and Multimedia (depending on your version).

2. Select the Devices tab.

3. Click Video Compression Codecs.

4. Select the offending codec and click Properties.

5. Click Remove.

Oh, I almost forgot-- the newest version of QuickTime plays mp4s (although I haven't used it for that and don't know how well it works).

The divx version 3.1 works fine. I encode movies with it all the time. If all your movies are now doing this download the new version of media player and the problem shoud be fixed. There are several Divx drivers to use. v3.1 is the hacked one. It works fine on Win XP. V5.0 is CRAP. Kristal Studos Divx code V3 is a good one. If your in to video capture Divx is the best format to work with. The best Program to use with your capture card is VirtualDub. It's Free and it works on any Microsoft PC win 95 and up.
