right knee medial aspect sharp pain

Greetings, I am fifty years young and a year ago I was thrown off my bicycle and landed hard on both knees onto cement. I have had MRI's of both knees and it has showed a meniscus tear at the minimum. While visiting my daughter in St. Louis, I was riding in the car with her and all of a sudden I experienced a very sharp pain in my knee. I wasn't doing anything at the time, just had my leg outstretched while riding. What causes such sharp pain with no particular movement? Thanks. Miriam

Your torn meniscus may have gotten pinched between the two bones.

I have recently started getting sharp, knife-like pains in my right- knee as well. No associated activity (just standing one day). And, as far as I know, I have had no knee injuries, trauma, etc. It happended three-four times over a period of a month and then recently, it happens several times a day and now during sleep. Just knife-like, throbbing pains that last for a few seconds. If you find anything out, please let me know.
