October 18, 2002 10:45 AM ET MANILA (Reuters) - A bomb exploded in a bus on the outskirts of the Philippine capital, Manila, late on Friday and police said they feared there were "many casualties."

"The bus was severely damaged and we fear there are many casualties," a police spokesman said.

The explosion occurred a day after seven people were killed and more than 100 injured in two bomb explosions in the main shopping center of the mostly Christian city of Zamboanga in the country's south. Police believed those bombings were carried out by Islamic radicals.
