Conversion from VCD to mp4 (or avi with size 320x240 YUV12)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I'd like to convert a VCD to be an mpeg4 file but I don't know what software should I use. But now I have a software that I use mpeg4ip software which I assume from the README file, this software can convert from avi (with 320 x 240 YUV12 format) to mpeg4. Unfortunately I don't know what is YUV12 and Is there any software that can convert VCD to avi with the above constraint. Can any one help me to solve the problem ? Thanks S. Thanyapon

Out of curiosity, why would you want to convert a VCD (mpeg1) to mp4 (DIVX)? You won't actually be improving resolution or the image quality. If anything, it will probably make you image quality worse and take up more space.

BTW, I believe that YUV12 is the color encoding scheme within the avi (although I could be wrong).

I haven't really worked much in dvd creation software, but there are two softwares I do recommend for creating viewable cds. try one of these: ahead-nero has a new package out that deals with vcds and other formats. roxio also has a cd project manager out that not only allows various file formats and conversions, but also editing of videos frame-by-frame.

you can convert a vcd to a avi file with virtual dub, xmpeg the avi format is much better than the vcd format because you reduce the file size and the quality is the same. but you can't play it with a dvd - player
