gourds

the leaves are dead/dying,, but the gourds them selves are dry or even ripe yet. Birdhouse and dipper gourds. Expecting freezing temps tonight, should I pull them and bring them indoors to dry? or are they a lost cause?

Hi Stan

My gourds never dry on the vine, I'm in zone 4. What I do is bring them inside and put them in the basement. It's good if you can sit them apart so they don't touch. They will mold. You can try washing them with a bleach-water mix first, it may help stop the mold. You can also wash off the mold as it develops. Late in the winter they will suddenly be lighter in weight. I rarely have a gourd that goes bad. You may need a flashlight if you haven't brought them in yet! Good luck!

I pulles them inside, have them in the back bedroom,, the coolest room, the tops of the dressers are full now. 2 birdhouse gourds, and 10 dippers,,,,
