Scrap lumber?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

My friends are always bringing me "junk" knowing that I will find a good use for most cast-off items. I'm often fixing something or creating a "new life" for stuff. :-)

Recently a friend brought me a truck load of scrap lumber from a construction site. To burn if nothing else. Some is long enough to be of good use(4'+), but most ranges fron 18" to 2'. Mostly 2x6's or 2x8's. Perfect for swings or something....? (How many swings can a person have?! LOL) It seems a shame to burn it, I've been thinking some crafty thing would make better use. I've made some fun "animal" benches(Zebras,Giraffes, etc.)with lumber about this size, so maybe a few of those. It's pretty thick for birdhouses...

Any ideas?

I saw an interesting cooking show the other day. They nailed half of a boneless salmon skin side down to a board and propped it up next to a fire. In half an hour it was cooked. If it starts to burn in any area they flipped the board over. This is apparently an old Native American way of cooking salmon.

That's interesting! Of course I don't think I can prepare a truckload of Salmon, lol! Good thing to try though!

I'm not understanding this part, duh...I'm sure it's obvious but I'm not "seeing" it?
