When the theory of "continental drift" was first proposed, it was rejected, in part because there were no mechanism to explain why the continents moved. Untill the proposal of plate tectonics, in 1960's. What differences exist between the theories of plate tectonics and continental drift that led geologists to quickly accespt one but reject the other?
