STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) A 77-year-old man is facing charges for allegedly forcing a woman off the road after he spotted her with a cell phone in her car.

David W. Knight reportedly told police that he is ''prejudiced against people who talk on cell phones while driving.''

Knight allegedly forced the 19-year-old woman to drive over the curb and onto an East Main Street sidewalk Friday.

''It's dangerous,'' Knight reportedly said to police about talking on cell phones while driving.

The incident started about 4 p.m. Friday, when the woman was stopped at the traffic light. She had her cell phone in her hand and was about to make a call when the light changed, police said.

Police said Knight, driving a Ford Explorer to the woman's left, apparently thought she was talking on the phone, and when the two drove under a railroad viaduct, he swerved toward her, forcing her off the road.

The woman then followed Knight to his home and confronted him and he allegedly told her that he forced her off the road on purpose because she was using a cell phone.

When she told Knight she could have been hurt, he said, ''That's what I intended,'' according to police reports.

Arrested on a charge of reckless driving, Knight was released on a written promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court next Monday.
