A Pause...and a Reflection

greenspun.com : LUSENET : All Things Final Fantasy II : One Thread

Have you ever gotten emotional while playing Final Fantasy? Angry? Overjoyed? Sad? I usually am just kinda indifferent, but I'll admit, I almost got choked up while playing 10. You guys know the part when the party is sitting around the campfire right outside Zanarkand? You know what is about to happen, and for the first half of the Zanarkand Ruins, that really sad music is playing? That part (almost) gets me every time. *sniff* You?

ALL THE TIME.......

I'll list all of them...

1. When Celes sang the opera, I cried, it was so beautiful....Also, in ff6, at the end, when Terra speaks to Maudin for the last time, and REALLY sad music plays, i was in tears....

2. in FF4, i was so angry at Kain for trying to kill Rosa....and almost cried when the twins killed themselves to save the others...

3. in FF5 when Galuf dies...he was my best char at that point...(but Cara inherits his abilities, so, HA!)

4. FF7, Aeris dying.......

5. FF8, when squall goes to that concert that everyone put son for him, and doesnt give a rat's tail...That really pisses me off....

6. And, finally, in ff9, when Clerya gets blown up....

Finally. Relevance. You all should listen to this Jubei guy, he's sharp. Here goes.

Okay, shut up. When I played FF1 for the first time, I got a little overwhelmed when I was about to step into the time-loop. Mind set of a second/third grader.

When you first meet Edge, and how he's nearly dead, joins anyway, then has to "see his parents off". Also, watching Kain under Golbez' control is awfully frustrating.

I got a little distraught when Galuf fights X Death to the end, even after he's technically dead, he keeps on plugging. Also, when you're looking for DragonGrass, I got into that part deep. The dragons in FF5 are so damned lovable.

I wanted to stomp the life out of Kefka when he killed General Leo. Also, when you're fighing as Cyan, if you THINK about what just happened, it's hard to not get into. The ENTIRE KINGDOM is dead, but he still refuses to let it be conquered. I also go into mega-mom mode when Mog is hurt. I can't stand to see him sitting down with his pompom sagging.

I didn't really care when Aeris died. I was actually kind of expecting it. After FF4, I started asking myself with each storyline, "if someone dies, who will it be?" My answer to 7 was Red XIII or Aeris. I was just pissed with Cloud's character development. He turns kinda wimpy over the game's course.

Squall's indifference wore thin on me. "Whatever". "I don't care". *yawn* I was hoping Rinoa would die to REALLY peg him, but no dice. I'll tell you when I got pissed there was when Griever started blowing away all my junctioned magic. I was also a little upset when Quistis was stripped of her instructor-dom.

The scene in FF9 when Zidane is limping through Garland's palace is disturbing. I also got really sentimental when he was talking about looking for his home in the Black Mage Village. The part where Brahne died would have been sad, but she looked like a beached whale.

I agree, Jubei. Sad part in FF10. But there is a part just before that that was EXCELLENT, but they could have done more with it. Right when you top Mount Gagazet, think about what's happening. The scenery is MATCHLESS, and they're about to descend the sad mountain into the dead town. You're about to do battle with the Sanctuary Keeper. As he's lumbering towards you, they should have had an FMV or something that captures the essence of what's REALLY going on. The mountain descent scene was also excellent.

The only time I really got a burst of emotion is when Auron tries to avenge Braska and Jecht, BY HIMSELF, and promply gets his ass kicked. It takes a special kind of man for that bravery.

Watching the old man (Strago? Fuck if I can remember) from FF2/4, when he just...BAM! Meteo...and death. Poor old fool.
FF6, watching Shadow's life get flashed by when you stay in that inn...true, most tough guys have a reason to be tough, but, fuck man...that shit's heavy.
FF7...the dropping of the Midgar Plate section onto the sector 7 slums..."MARLEEEEEN!!!!!"*Bambambambam* Shivers up the spine every time...and that bastard Shinra watches with the symphony in the background.
FF8...When the SeeD team is sent in to assassinate Edea, and irvine misses. First time I saw it...I felt really sad for the kick ass gunman.
FF9...Umm...would you believe none?Maybe watching Vivi wander through the Black Mage Village, watching all of them die, but really...none.
FF10...Only one...Watching the summoners in Home totally ignore Tidus, saying that Yes, they want to die, die for this great cause. That, is devotion.

Ok... FF6 - The part when you go back to Doma? castle as Cyan and he meets his wife and son again...thats pretty sad...but afterwards you get all his techs. FF7 - Midgar plate falling. The flashback where sephiroth destroys everything and you get a nice fmv of him walking thru the flames and then later when tifa tries to attack him and gets stabbed. FF8 - REALLY STRUGGLING HERE...um...no nothing. FF9 - When Black Waltz 3 attacks the airship and all the barrels are destroyed and vivi is all upset. Also when Steiner and Beatrix fight through Alexandria trying to repel Kuja and Bahumut. FF10 - When your on top of the airship and Tidus reveals that he has the sphere that Yuna made. Also the bit at the end where Yuna is whistling for Tidus. Hmmm these are all sad...never mind...

FF7: When Aeris dies. Don't care if you saw it coming, it's still sad. And isn't it creepy the way she keeps on smiling? Also, when Red XIII finds out the truth about his father... That music is the best! I start crying every time!

FF10: Like Jubei said, at the campfire. Really powerful scene. And in Home, when Tidus finally realizes that Yuna's supposed to die. I mean, the poor guy is the biggest optimist in the group, it's obvious he likes her, and then he's hit with this really awful news that every one else already knows. And after Bevelle, when he kisses her... that was just too cute and sad! And when he's talking to Jecht, both before and after they fight him. And when Yuna has to send Auron. But what really got me crying was the end, especially when Tidus is fading away. You watch it and tell me that you didn't get the slightest bit emotional.

Weeell, i am really soppy when it comes to these games, so here it goes: 6) havent finished it yet, but that poisoned water thing? that was pretty low...

7) When Nanaki's petrified Dad starts crying over his son and Nanaki's howlin'... that makes me very sad. How horrible must it be to be petrified for so long?! eeeeergh.... and also when Tseng dies cos he was my fave chatacter and JUST HOW CALLOUS WAS THAT AERIS BITCH! I mean he's been in love with her like FOREVER and she cant even say a nice word...

8) I love 8, but there was always one thing that annoyed me- NOTHING BAD EVER REALLY HAPPENED! no main character deaths, and Ultie never *really* did anything to terrible... not like the great Kefka poisoned water massacre.. damn that was harsh. I suppose the saddest bit is in Trabia garden... if you go into the graveyard a guy is crying over his girlfriend. Thats quite sad. the rest is not. And its not really touching either. Ah well.

9) Beatrix and Steiner fighting side by side, yeah thats sad. And he wanted to tell her he loved her and she said leave it then she went missing presumed dead... that was quite bad. And the whole lives of Garnet/Daggar/Sarah, Vivi and Zidane were pretty sad, the whole not knowing who you are thing. But the saddest thing was my favourite main character Freya's heartache when her one love didnt know who she was... *sniff*

10) again, havent finished... but i really like Seymour, so I wont like that bit... and okeeey, as much as I hate Tidus and Yuna i think the ending wll be very sad.
