Apparently there is a bid for the U.S. Night O' champs to be Wednesday, June 25, 2003. The event would be just before the U.S. Relay Champs (on the weekend of June 28-29). The night O' bid is from EWOC -- I think that must be Eastern Washington O' Club. I'm guessing the idea is to let you combine the night O' and relay champs. Sounds fun to me.

I think there is also a bid for the night champs for New Hampshire. I guess it'll be interesting to see if the champs go to the west or if NH gets the bid.

I don't see any reason why Classic, Short, Long, Night, and Relay can't be all held in a 9-day span.

The problem is getting clubs to host it and finding enough maps in a relatively small geographic area.

At the BOD meeting in Vermont, the New Hampshire bid was approved.

I think that's too bad. Not because UNO won't do a good job (I'm sure they will) but because I think that USOF should be trying to consolidate championship events as much as possible.

Ultimately, I'd like to see USOF adopt what almost every other amateur federation does - host all (or nearly all) national championship events into a single week-long deal. That is the only way to ensure a quality field for each event.

One could argue that Intercollegiates and Interscholastics are separate animals, and clearly 24-hour champs needs to be on its own due to recovery time (just as the Marathon is often separate from track & field champs). I don't see any reason why Classic, Short, Long, Night, and Relay can't be all held in a 9-day span.
