A strong tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea strengthened into a tropical depression this morning, and forecasters said it could bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Jamaica later today and tonight.

Tropical Depression 10 first formed over the weekend, but later became disorganized and weakened. A Hurricane Hunter aircraft investigated the system this morning and found that it had regenerated.

At 11 a.m. EDT, the tropical depression was located about 145 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica. It had winds of 35 mph and was moving to the west at 9 mph.

Heavy rains are expected to spread over Jamaica over the next 24 hours, and forecasters warned that these rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.

Forecasters said the depression could become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours. If it does, it would be named Isidore.
