Synchronizing Audio+Video on VirtualDub Capture

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

All, I am trying to Capture videos using VirtualDub1.4.10. The Compression I am using is MPEG3 for Audio, and Divx Codec 4.12. Im using Win XP and a AverTV capturing card. Now the question is how do I prevent the Audio from loosing Sync with the video. When I try to capture to MPEG-I (using software from AverTV) and then compress to Divx, this does not happen. Any ideas?

Cheers Jason

Probably what is happening is that your PC is not powerful enough to do the compression on the fly necessary for your DivX captures. Try recording at a lower resolution as that will reduce the strain on your CPU and that may result in keeping your sound in sync. MPEG-1 captures are typically at low bit rates and resolutions and just about any PC can generate enough CPU power to do an adequate job on those recordings.

Hi, Thanks for the answer, though I do have an AMD 1.4GHz, is that not enough? Also I have set the CPU processing to 100% so the program can use all the resources of the CPU if it needs to, but usually I only see CPU usage indicating around 30-50%.

Any other suggestions? Thx

how to do

Here's your answer:

Don't compress the audio to MP3 while you're capturing, capture at full PCM.

After capture, load your video back into VirtualDub, and select your audio compression settings, set Video to full quality (no recompression), and resave. Bingo! :)

Hi, sorry for my english. I have a problem with Virtualdub. (1.4.14) When I go to the capture menu, it says that cannot find a rgb driver so the preview function will be disabled. Moreover I cannot change the format of the video and the codec I want to use. It always says that the video resolution is not supportet by the codec. I tryed with alll the codecs in list. SOme ideas about it? Maybe I need to install some optional parts of Virtualdub? Can Virtuladub capture also the audio (I knew it hasn't this functionality)?

Please if you can let me know.....

Thanks

Gianluigi
