Spotted Dick is back on an NHS Trust hospital menu after its name was changed from Spotted Richard.

Bosses at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust had originally thought patients would be too embarrassed to ask for it.

But Trust catering manager Mike Byrne said the old name will be back on the menu when new ones were printed in the next few months.

He said: "This is one of those things that was changed several years ago, but I don't think there's really any particular reason not to change it back.

"The traditional puddings are very popular with patients and always have been and I don't think people get embarrassed by the name. It's not even as though people have to ask for it - they tick a box on a menu card to order their food."

Last year supermarket chain Tesco looked into changing the name of the steamed pudding, which contains sultanas.

A spokesman for Tesco said: "We were considering changing the name but customers told us that they like it so we decided to keep it."
