TX - Verizon gets wrong number in Hays County

Hays County residents and businesses will receive new telephone books from Verizon in the next couple weeks after the listings distributed in July were widely erroneous.

More that 100 people contacted The Free Press in August after finding that they either weren't listed in the phone book, or the number listed was changed years ago.

Verizon spokesperson Deanna Kriege said the phone company noticed problems with the July phone book almost the moment it was delivered. She said a computer system error mixed up the data, resulting in the publication of several wrong numbers.

"We certainly apologize for the errors," Kriege said. "...We hate it when that happens."

The new telephone book will have a letter on the back cover explaining that the directory is a replacement for the July issue, along with an apology for that edition.

The new books will be sent out the week of Sept. 9. The book to be replaced contains listings from Buda, Dripping Springs, Hays, Kyle, Mountain City, Wimberley and Woodcreek.
