What's that yer workin' on?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I'm always working on a zillion things at once. Definately a fly by night approach!

I was working on fence, I think I'm finally good. Got most of the goats separated. I'm started to breed them in about 3 weeks, so they will start kidding the first part of Feb. It's cold, but early kids do much better for me.

I was painting the barn, but I'm thinking on it. I should have reprimed it. The red looks dull, old. Which could be ok. Now if I reprime the rest it won't match. And I'll have to get oil based to go over what I painted....

I still want to repaint my house before winter. (she says dubiously)

Lots of Tomatos....made some picante'.

I'm thinking about what I want to plant this fall. I didn't do veggies this year, I was overwhelmed. I really love flowers best. Cottage garden. Mostly perennials. I think I'm going to go heavy on lilys.

I'm redoing my back room. It used to be my bedroom. Actually before that it was a greenhouse. It has a smallish pond in it. The filter and pump are messed up, so it's drained right now.

I'm doing applique' quilt squares for a swap with folks from all over the world.

Working on painting some goards. I didn't get any planted, but I'll pick some up at the annual "Pumpkin Fest" for cheap.

Mainly my artsy project currently is a trompe' le....darn it however you spell it. A floor painting. I'm not really sure what I want to do...I thought of making it look like a fish pond, or a tapastry rug....any ideas?

I'm repairing a sailboat someone gave me. It's split at the seam.

So, how about you? What have you got goin' on???

Well Patty...right now I'm working on not feeling guilty about NOT doing half of what you're planning on doing :-)!! Are you related to Polly??!! Just jokin'!

Indoor winter garden, wine, worm ranch expansion, one novel, three articles, manure digester, reflooring my office , two research consultationproject evals and trying to make it with a new girlfriend 22 years my junior. And I call this retirement ? :>)

I've been working on fence too Patty! Also clearing about 1/4 acre of woods - - cutting into firewood - - hauling the tree tops to the burn pile - - and bush-hogging the brush. In between I've been canning tomatoes and making salsa. Yum. Baked a new cornbread recipe I saw in one of my dumpster mags - - but my family recipe is still my favorite. This one baked into loaves like regular bread, but there was garlic/bacon/cheese in the ingredients, and I didn't like those tastes in my cornbread.

Finally - thank goodness, had rain yesterday. 1/2 inch - just need 16 to catch up the deficit.

Well, its back to school for me. Made cactus fruit jelly tonight, this was a new one, but a friend from West TX brought them, I had to do something with them. And the biggest project/blessing/worry is I was brought a six yr old this weekend to raise. That's a six year old hyper active little boy. And I thought it was too quiet here by myself, well not any more.

David, greenhouses, plural? How many do you have? I should set one up, I won't have the luxury this spring, of the ones I've been able to use for a many years now. But, I should have my own again, anyway. Are yours heated? I'm thinking of a wood framed structure, I've had lots of hoop houses. My friend (ex boss), and I used to build some quite nice ones.

Marcia! Definately not overly productive here! I'm just getting caught up on spring(!)....and now, summer is coming to a close....*sigh*. A season for all things, but I hate winter, (she's says grumpily). I used to like it when I lived in the mountains, it's no colder, and the snow helps, here it's mostly that monochromatic, grey....bleeeeeakness. And of course skiing! I loved that! I'm nooot thinking about winter. Nope, I still have a couple of months, at least!

Jay, wow. I have a nineteen yo daughter, if she was dating a man 22 years older than her, and older than me, her mother,.....I guess I'd have to hunt him down and kill him. LOL!!! ;-)

Granny, gosh you are motivated!!! I'm tired just listening to you and David, also...I read Marcias "over the fence chat" post, she's been BUSY as well! Hey, I posted a salsa recipe at one of the backup forums, do you have one, btw? I made a batch today....but the tomatoes...ahhhhh! I foresee quite a bit of salsa making in the near future. I'm no way cutting wood this year. I'm refuse to feel guilty either! I hope the slab wood is decent from the Amish mills...

Jackie!!!!!!!!!!! A child???? That sure is a totally and completely life altering new situation! I'm sending my very best thoughts, hopes, and support! I'm sure, if you need to talk, many here will be there to help! You must be in a...."confused" state of mind right now, I sure would be. Hugs to the lil one!

:-)

Thanks for the good thoughts Patty. I'm sure I will need them! This kid was raised on junk food and power rangers, so he has some adjustments to make, but so do I. I think we'll get along fine, he promised to teach me how to hold a rooster when we "get our farm" as he says it. Makes it harder to stay put here though, but I need to until I get thru school, that's another year. Jackie

Oh, Jackie, no problem! What a wonderful thing for you to be doing! You must have a very giving heart! :-) And really, if you ever need to vent any frustration, I would be more than happy to listen. I can relate, more than you might imagine.

Years ago, before I met my ex, I had just become a licensed foster parent for children with "mental" problems. I never actually did this though, as I met my ex, and he had 2 children....who...well, my "training" came in handy. They had a rocky first few years.

Anyway, just one more year of school? One day at a time, huh? :-)
