VCD playback is only possible through use of "Homebrew" software (software made by end-users not licensed by Microsoft)run on the xbox. For you to be able to run this software you must first have a mod chip installed on your xbox (thus voiding your warranty). In short, no, the xbox does not play VCD or SVCD. You can't play (S)VCD format unless you have a MOD-Chip that will void your warranty. However the Xbox gaming system can play normal DVD's so it's your way to find out what formats the Xbox does support.

I have heard it is also possible to use a dvd-lite style trick, where you burn files onto a cdrw, in the same style as a dvd, and it will play.

No but it does play back dvd +r/+rw. not sure about -r/-rw and i have not tried the cd r/w but i hav heard that works on reading cd's. not sure on a video-cd though

DVD -R -RW also works on the Xbox. Infact saying this, the Xbox is very receptive to properly burnt DVD's. It performs better with home burnt DVD's than the Playstation2 (with -r-rw), and also for those who want it, converts NTSC to PAL, bearing in mind that that did use the advanced scart lead, I don't know how much of a part it played.

It would have been nice to see VCD and SVCD, but then again, what company wants to mass market that could play movies that where easaly available over the internet, instead of having to pay £25 in order to play DVD's?

xbox yes can play vcd or svcd or mp3 or divx but only cd rw or dvd r or dvd rw any cd with format UDF, or the console xbox with samsung dvd

Maybe you should try burning the VOB files onto a cd- r...............not all of em cuz there is no space.........but like a few cd's worth splitting em up every so often.......

i was wondering if there is a way that you can put a dvd format onto a normal audio cd withought a dvd drive is there any way you can fll your system into thinking it has advd drive when actually it dosent

if you burn songs onto CD-RW disc it will play on your xbox. but i cant find a way to play VCDs... my mate put a film on a PAL format and that worked but i dont no how to it??

Yes it can be done, ive seen a friend do it with WinDVD and used a CD-RW, it works.

You can create a mini DVD on CDR using nero burning rom which I have heard will play on xbox
