Why won't my VCD play on my DVD player with VCD capabilities

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have some VCD's of all the Seinfelds. They currently can play on my DVD player. Using Nero I have tried both to copy them and create an mpg file and burn them. Both of these methods have made the disc playable on my computer but when I put them in the DVD player it says no disc. I know some players can't read different color dye but I have tried quite a few brands. Is it the Nero program, the discs I am using, or my DVD player?

Check the DVD player compatibility list at http://www.vcdhelp.com to see if your player supports CD-R or CD-RW media. Some do not. It could be your media too. Try burning to CD-RW and see if that works as often CD-RW discs will work when CD-R won't. I wouldn't blame Nero for your problems as if you use it to do a disc copy of a VCD, it should work fine, assuming your DVD player supports burnable media.

I had this problem and it has been driving me nuts! I have a Napa VCD/mp3/cd that plays everything, even stuff my dvd rom and cdrw drive has trouble with. I was making vcds with nero 5.5 and my napa happy but then I bought a mustek v520 dvd which is easy to get the secret menu up to allow multi region and macrovision to be disabled, but would it play my home made vcds? NO! I looked on line and read that if I used cdrw disk then this would be the answer, somthing to do with laser angles (bullshit) no joy, I then got the trial version of cdrwin 5. used a 10penny CDr and it works fine!

This is because some DVD players do not support Video CD 2.0 format.
