Over the fence chat for the week of 8-26-02

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

Well Phyl.......you wanted a volunteer so here it goes. I hope you wanted one this week?? Anyhow.......glad to hear from you and see that there are others here on this board. I still like this one better cause it loads so much faster on my very slow dial up.

We are the proud owners of a brand new truck. We decided that every truck that was what we wanted........basic farm pickup, was all used up and we are entirely sick of never making it to where we want to go without anxiety attacks galore. After ten years with no payments, it is going to seem strange to be in debt, but well worth it. I just love driving it and feeling secure for the first time in a very long time.

It is bright and cheerful here in Michigan today. We have green grass again after a great deal of rain broke the drought. We have the last of the hay down and hope to get it in the barn without it getting rained on. I put the last of the sweet corn in the freezer last week and the tomatoes are finally coming on good.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Congratulations on the new truck. I can sympathize with your feelings of being in debt after being totally debt free. We had our place paid for, but moved last year. It is strange to adjust to house payments again.

Your garden sounds great this year, our little garden is going gangbusters also. We may have to give stuff away. I love that part of getting to meet some of the neighbors we really don't know very well.

Take care and hope that everything keeps going well for you all.

Hi Diane, and y'all.

We are looking for our first truck! We have seen a couple of 1986 to 1989 chevys in the 3000 range. For us it is either that or 18 thousand for a new 4WD Nissan Frontier. OUCH.

Hey there, Diane! Congrats on your new truck!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean about never making it where you want to go...especially with a doe in raging heat!! Many times we've loaded a doe (in heat) into our older trucks and never made it to our destination for breeding on time because of break downs! Two years ago we bought a Y2K Dodge truck and have never regretted it. All the does get bred on time now :-)!! It's been worth the monthly payments.

Good to hear from you!!!

BTW, Diane...isn't today (28th) your birthday??!! If it is...have a good one :-)!

Marcia, you are just way too sweet!!! Yes, made it another year :>). I should have known that you would remember. Nice to "see" you too by the way and thanks for the wishes. I wish I had copied the birthday thread so I could remember yours and a few others that I miss. hugs

Rick..........does sticker shock mean anything to you??? We about died when we realized we would have to pay more for a truck than we did for our first farm!!!
