Dear Bethany, Poe wrote Gothic Romanticism. His writings reflected his losses, death, depression, and insanity. So basically he wrote about the darker side of Romanticism. There are many other influences to his writing besides the death of his wife. TB or tuberculosis was ever present in his life and took the lives of those very close to him. His mother and two other loves of his died from TB. The rest of his family also died and he was sent to a foster home and did a stint in the army. He was also an alchoholic and a drug addict. Transcendentalism is also present in his works. Not just the death of his wife but him having to watch his wife die is an influence. He cared for his wife through TB until she died. After her death, Poe fell in love with another woman who also died of TB. Those are a few influences Poe had for his writings. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me at the posted e-mail address. Always happy to help. Smile, Benjamin Warren
